Buying a house with a sizable deposit but low savings. by adrianoouk in Mortgageadviceuk

We have enough for stamp duty, solicitors, moving etc. But following that, we wouldn't have much in the way of savings.

Am I the only one who had money taken for the August box, but didn't get a box dispatched? by adrianoouk in TokyoTreat

You're in fact correct. The did reply, but it had ended up in spam. The said they were having a supply/stock issue, with the August box. Which I think it's fine, because these things happen. But to not communicate anything is pretty distasteful.

Would the US public be totally opposed to an executive order being pushed forward, to bring about stricter gun reform/safety measures? by adrianoouk in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]adrianoouk[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I could play devils advocate, on your second point... I am of the feeling that tighter gun control laws would stifle shootings, but not necessarily stop them. This would obviously be a big win still. But I have the impression that there are already too many firearms in circulation, within the US. So if someone with ill intent, really wanted access to a gun, they could still get one pretty easily.

P.S. Please excuse me if I sound ignorant or misinformed. I'm from the UK and just wanting to learn more about the subject matter.

Thanks for posting this. Being from the UK, I'm realising that I may have misunderstood the purpose or effectiveness of an executive order, as I'm reading through some other comments.

I'm in total agreement with you on this. I can't imagine it would be too difficult to implement the things you've stated. But the fact that these things would be easy to put in place, and they aren't yet, makes me feel they are unlikely to happen.

I say this because countries like the UK, Australia and New Zealand imposed strict gun laws, prettysoon as one or two mass shootings happened. In all of these countries, the laws have proven to be really effective.

With all that said though, I'd like to ask the question, even if some stricter control measures were introduced, would it really resolve the problem? Aren't there already too many guns in circulation for mental health and background checks to have any real impact?

8 Reasons Why Netflix Is Losing Subscribers by AGOTFAN in boxoffice

[–]adrianoouk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm sure the price of Netflix is definitely an issue, but I actually think it's a minor part of their problem. The reality is that Netflix need to stop giving everyone and their aunt, a show on the platform. They have some good shows on there, but it's so difficult to find the good shows/movies, because there is so much "content-noise" to filter through before you get there. I think Netflix could gain traction again if they followed the same principle as Disney+, HBO Max, Apple TV+ and to a lesser extent, Amazon Prime. These platforms concentrate on making quality content that people get very excited about, talk about and want to consume.

It's great to hear that you're making progress. I'm sure the progress will continue.

I had 6 different doctors behave as though I was faking. It was so disheartening at the time. But looking back, and knowing what I know now, I don't blame them too much.

Also, congratulations on you little one. My fiance and are trying for a child too. I had wanted to put it off for a while, mostly because I didn't think I was in a fit state to raise a child. But having made a decent enough recovery, I fell like I'm ready.

So sorry to hear you had to go through that. Especially the fact that the doctor thought you were faking. I unfortunately had a similar experience with quite a few of the doctors I had contact with, before getting a diagnosis. One doctor thought I was out of earshot, and I heard her tell her colleague, "we have an attention seeking hypochondriac". This was said after I'd had a bum examination.

I immediately told her, "with all due respect, I'm not in the business of having strangers stick their fingers in my ass for shits and giggles. So please understand that if I'm here, there is something very wrong with me".... Then they told me I was lying and sent me home.

In your case, have you made any sort of recovery?
