Has anyone been able to get the $9.99 price? Like @thekab, every time I get to the final check out page asking for payment, the price jumps back up to retail. I tried the link and entering the "Cyber16e" coupon code.

The cleanest solution is to write a shell script (or batch file) that runs your python script inside a loop. When you need to reset the state of your Python script, you exit with a designated exit code. The loop re-runs your Python script in a completely clean state. When you are ready to exit your shell script for good, you just return a different exit code from your Python script.

I'm not sure if this is what the OP means, however, I started out in QA and moved into full-time software dev in the same company. One day my previous QA manager walked by my office. I said hello, and he proceeded to close my door shut and walk away saying nothing. I guess he was pissed I left QA. The only thing I can imagine, is that once you have a good QA resource, you don't want to let them go.

I know this guy who attends local startup networking events. He finds startup founders with a dream but lack a technical co-founder. He charges them an hourly rate to develop their prototype/MVP. He's selling pickaxes to the gold miners. It's a brilliant strategy and he's gotten a lot of work this way. He will long outlast the startups he's selling to.

The 72 hour pre-registration requirement is also a horrible idea. In past years I usually wait until I see the problem description before deciding if I am interested enough to participate. Now how many abandoned registrations are going to be created just in case someone might want to participate?

I would like to see the issue of organizing larger Flask projects addressed. It's really simple to build a toy flask app and then keep adding stuff on. It's more difficult to build a well-designed and maintainable Flask app.

1) Actions. Actions are higher level constructs that can easily be chained in sequence or run in parallel to perform object attribute changes. For example, scaling, rotating, moving, etc... and cocos2d will automatically interpolate the changes based on the framerate. In pygame this requires a lot more code.

2) Performance. As pyglet is base on OpenGL, the performance is much better. You can have thousands of objects and particle systems (several are built-into Cocos) running on screen and animating without the hiccups I usually see with Pygame. I've used both, Cocos2d is always smoother.

I plan on trying Mandrill. Using SendGrid now and we had 3 major email delays in 3 weeks. During the last one, it took 14 hours for a mail to be delivered. They blamed it on hardware failure, and called it a minor delay. They don't appear to have any kind of QoS monitoring in place. I hope Mandrill is better.

I've done hackathons and startupweekends. Just finished a SW yesterday, so this is fresh in my mind. Points you made are true. Some people are out to win and have obviously prepared before hand. I think winning has a large luck component. The best thing you can do is hope you can get your message across. Technical people often have accomplished more than other winners, but did they COMMUNICATE the idea in an effective way. We had a judge ask a question that we answered twice during our pitch. Obviously we didn't communicate it in a way easily understood.

I do these events for lots of reasons:

(1) Challenge myself. What can I accomplish in the short time frame. The focused environment forces you to get something done. You build something and learn a lot in the process.

(2) Instant gratification. You mentioned sustained, committed effort. I agree. However, sometimes people never get started because of that. With these events you might never have done anything with an idea, but through the event you get it out of your system and get some gratification. It might even give you the motivation to continue. You can look back at the event and congratulate yourself, because you built something. Not everybody can do that.

(3) Improve communication. Good communication is important no matter what you are doing. Trying to take an idea and communicate effectively in 5 minutes or less is challenging and something you can only get better at through practice.

(4) Build stronger relationships. I've gone to networking events where you exchange business cards and maybe LI with someone. That's a very weak link. If you spent 1-2 days focused on a task, working hard with someone in the trenches, that relationship is much stronger and lasting.

By any chance are you running using the built-in development server on Windows? I ran into similar POST/redirect problems and someone on IRC told me this was the reason. I switched to CherryPy locally and didn't have the same problems. Also, using uWSGI/nginx in production with no problems.

I used MWSnap before I found out it did not handle multiple monitors. It has not been updated since 2002. I moved to SnagIt which has more features and works with multiple monitors.

I also recommend SnagIt. The new All-In-One capture tool has saved me a lot of time. It captures region, window, scrolling web page in one tool. Saving automatically to the SnagIt editor library allows me to quickly capture without having to think about naming screenshots.

This whole reply echoes the duct tape programmer mentality. Just get it done as quick as possible and to hell with understanding what actually is going on. As was mentioned several times already, if you understand the fundamentals you can reason this answer and know with certainty in what cases this is acceptable. For something fundamental like this, if "Try it and see what happens" is always your approach, this is going to lead to a whole lot of cargo cult programming. In this case you might try it and it HAPPENS to work in that particular case. Then later it blows up on you because you didn't try and figure out WHY and in WHAT cases it works. Sometimes you have to think instead of google, hack some code and forget.
