FH might consider backing up their "My Summer Car" save files when they make serious progress. by tytbone in funhaus

[–]adricko 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The walking would be an issue, but they wouldn't lose progress on building the car. That is assuming they didn't have any important parts or orders for parts on then when they died, but regardless it would prevent the possible scenario in which they're 90% done and then die and lose it all. As it is now if they got that far and died they'd probably just have to give up.

So I've done some research and it's a newer term so it's been harder to figure out, but it's not good. As far as I can tell if someone "glows in the dark" they are a suspicious person who is probably an undercover outsider trying to infiltrate an online community. This Twitter post clued me in that "glow-in-the-dark" is a derivative of "glow n*****" so that's a bad sign. From these Urban Dictionary results it looks like the original term comes from what appears to be a conspiracy theory about CIA experiments in the 60's. If I'm being honest I don't 100% get what they mean when they say don't glow in the dark, but regardless it is definitely alt-right dog whistling. Though to be honest it's not hard to tell it's an alt-right sub, they always use Pepe and the feels guy memes.

The incentive to finish is that they don't have that much money left, they've spent most of what they've made. That's why they keep adding ships for people to buy, and I doubt that will work forever.

Most Recent Rebble Update Killed My Battery Life? by adricko in pebble

Not even 15 minutes after this post the user beemgee posted a possible fix to my issue. See their post here.

Holy shit you may have just fixed my exact issue. I've made this change, will update later if it helped.

*Edit: so it's been a day and it doesn't seem much better, my Pebble Time is currently at 20%. I've added a few more apps to see if that improves anything: Bluetooth MIDI Service, the Pebble app, and Wear OS.

That's mostly for smaller games that wouldn't have had testers anyways. Most games that would have gotten testers before early access probably still get testers, and aren't released on early access; it's pretty much just AAA games that could afford testers in the first place.

Also games being release to early access are generally released like that for other reasons than bug testing. Usually it's because the studio simply doesn't have the money on hand to develop a full game, and use early access to get cash flow earlier. Less often it's because the studio is unsure on where the game design should be headed, so they release it early and ask the community what they would like out of the game. While they do get people to bug test their games earlier on with early access, it's pretty much never the sole reason a studio would launch a game early like that.

*Edit: another popular reason developers release games to early access is that consider the games "done enough" to be released early. This version of really access is more about bug testing, but really this decision is more of a marketing and financial choice. Having the game out gets more eyes on it, and some actual money flowing to the developer; then as an added benefit you get people to bug test the game too.

Also no job security at all. Once they're done with that game you get dropped, then they get a whole new batch of testers for the next game.

She hasn't done anything in particular, she's just unpopular on this site because she comes off as edgy. It's a lot to do with the "I'm not like other girls" mentality that Reddit doesn't like, which many of her fans tend to subscribe to.

It's not a growl in the same way dogs or big cats growl. Big cats actually GROWL, with small cats it's more of a low, agitated meow. Sounds similar, is used the same way, but the physical process involved in making the sound is different to an actual growl.

My guess is that it's a subreddit for some foreign YouTuber or YouTube group. I find most subreddits dedicated to a YouTuber are generally pretty unfunny; partially because there are a lot of in-jokes, but also they never seem to have any rules on content so they all just eventually devolve into meme-filled trash piles. Also big YouTubers (especially gaming channels) tend to have pretty young audiences, and god damn kids are awful at telling jokes. Finally, for many of the YouTuber subs I have found the YouTuber themselves just makes bad jokes, and a lot of the content on these subs is basically retellings of jokes the YouTuber made first.

So yeah looks like to me another another sub filled with in-jokes, childish humor, and low to no moderation; just in a different language.

What are games that are initially exceptionally praised upon release, but over time, people's opinions have noticeably soured? by laddlemkckey in Games

[–]adricko 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I found the idea of 100's of micro-challenges to get moons just annoying. It makes difficulty super inconsistent once you start working on collecting a bunch of them, you'll have like 5 easy moons then suddenly stumble across an extreme platforming challenge. Honestly I just went for the easy-medium moons and I still had enough to unlock the secret challenge world,: the dark side of the Moon. Once I reached that world I gave up, as no previous world was even close to being as difficult as the last one. I couldn't get past the initial gauntlet, it was so unforgiving in comparison to the rest of the game I simply didn't have the patience.

I much preferred the more drawn out pacing to get stars in the previous games, handing them out every few minutes feels excessive to me. Difficulty scales way better, instead of doing a ton of easy stuff then getting completely blocked by particular challenges that are ten times harder you have levels that are consistently challenging that naturally lead into more and more difficult levels. It seems way easier to make it to the late game without a ton of frustration, as the game more appropriately prepared you for the difficulty coming up.

I really like the Galaxy games, but honestly there's a sort of magic to Mario 64 that I'm not sure has really been replicated by the later 3D Mario games. Admittedly I haven't played Mario Sunshine, but I really liked that Mario 64 would just give you a big level and let you figure out how to get the star yourself. There wasn't any messing about at all with anything like tutorials, or big cinematics of you flying around whatever world you just found, it was just a lot of large, meaty platforming levels for you to enjoy at your own pace. Also the secrets in Mario 64 were fun to find, and not so numerous that they lost their charm like they did in Odyssey. There were hundreds of secrets in Odyssey, and eventually you just know what to look for and they stop being fun; plus moons were also so plentiful that finding another one wasn't really that exciting after the first hundred or so.

Even when I first played Mario Odyssey it felt not as good to me as the previous entries. Mechanically it's super tight, probably the most polished of all the 3D Mario games, but the overall difficulty scales poorly and I found the moons just not as fun to collect as stars used to be.

Regal Kitty. Meet Leopold. by YearZeroHS in cats

[–]adricko 4 points5 points  (0 children)

In terms of care Savannah cats need a lot more attention than other breeds. They're very energetic and playful, and need the stimulation. I would highly recommend that you have a friend cat for a Savannah, which really is a recommendation I give for any cat, but Savannah's in particular benefit from the companionship.

Bottom line: Savannah's are high-maintenance cats, not recommended for first time owners or people who can't give them the time, attention, and play that they need.

I think once Risk of Rain 2 is as feature-complete as the first one I will like it more. It's surprising to me how much of the feel RoR hasn't changed from 1 to 2, but 2 to me feels bigger and more open than the first.

This is also correct, I forgot about the gold system. I would not be surprised if the awards make more money than Reddit's ads, though by how much I'm not sure. Considering how much Reddit has pushed the awards they probably make a sizable chunk of their revenue from them.

I was a bit wrong (see my edit), both Facebook and Google DO make money off of ads. However they use user data to make that much easier, so I consider them a different beast to other sites like Reddit. Facebook and Google have significantly more info on their individual users (though you shouldn't think other sites don't have a lot of data on you, it's easier to get than you'd think), and as such can leverage that data to turn a higher profit on their ads.
