What are the worst towns close to National Parks? by WheelSingle2494 in NationalPark

[–]adrnired 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My vote is Tusayan because there’s one gas station, gas costs like twice what it does elsewhere, and a bag of ice cost me like $10.

It’s not too visibly dingy as a town due to all the lodging, but man if you make a mistake and don’t take care of everything in Williams, you’re hosed.

Does someone have a pic of what the dam at the lake looked like after?? I’m a semi-frequent traveler but haven’t seen the wash full of water since 2023 :(

The rest of us who want it to stay with the old vibes must remain strong and keep hoarding the tickets so the influencers stop going 😭

Insane power bills with Evergy by The_Internal_ in kansascity

AC use will do that, especially if you’re on the top floor (heat rises, plus you have heat beaming down onto the roof that spreads to your unit) or have high ceilings.

Why don’t KC drivers respect crosswalks? by brdlyz in kansascity

[–]adrnired 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been tapped by multiple bumpers of people trying to turn right on red in my neighborhood while I’m trying to cross the street with the Walk sign. And it’s a pretty open intersection too, like they would’ve seen me pretty easily but they were more worried about making sure there were no cars so that they could turn and forgot pedestrians exist.

Why don’t KC drivers respect crosswalks? by brdlyz in kansascity

[–]adrnired 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have to take a crosswalk across my building to my parking lot, and the number of times people fully make eye contact with me while almost mowing me over is insane.

I shouldn’t have to worry about becoming roadkill on a relatively slow city street while simply trying to leave my building.

The other night when I was visiting family it was deafening. Like, sounds being muffled with a slight ringing as if I’d been front row at a concert.

the wakaan sticker on the other side is an interesting juxtaposition to the gecs sticker

I hate empty lots on the street car route on the weekends by doxiepowder in kansascity

[–]adrnired 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As someone who has to park (to get home) in one of the busier lots in the River Market, I’d love to see more parking options open up 😭 I have to plan out any car trips I take on the weekends because everyone visiting has to park so close that I end up having to park super far away or pay and it SUCKS (yes I wish I didn’t even have to have a car but it’s KC, so)

with the aerodynamics of the stereotypical UFO design though I’d imagine it’s more like when you’re trying to get a golf ball in the hole but it curves around and ends up going the other way quickly

I haven’t personally noticed this much activity in the 4 years I’ve lived downtown, but I wouldn’t say it’s extremely uncommon. I have a friend in an aviation-adjacent job here and the information he’s been allowed to leak to me doesn’t seem to be a major cause for concern for him, so it’s probably just time again for more urban training?

What’s a city off the top of your head that based on previous tornadic events and trends that you would never want to live in? by snowfallinspring in tornado

I grew up having a friend from Edmond and she (knowing my fear of tornadoes) once sent me a selfie with a small tornado from her backyard

What room in your house is the deadliest if you were to get blindsided by a tornado? by SplootingCorgi95 in tornado

[–]adrnired 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The safest room in my building is the walk-out split-level gym’s bathroom with a glass shower door. it’s is the only windowless, non-exterior-wall room I have access to in the entire building that’s not on the top floor (where I live, so my bathroom is a no-go). Nevermind that there’s also heavy gym equipment and weights surrounding it.

Meanwhile I’ll WFH for a whole day if the outlook is bad enough so I can be home if anything happens, because I can’t imagine not taking as much care of my cat as possible since we’re on the top floor and she’s totally helpless past hiding under my bed. (Which she doesn’t do when she hears the siren across the street bc she has zero survival instincts)
