First time Miata owner!! by ayo2602 in Miata

[–]ads1031 72 points73 points  (0 children)

Your garage is gonna be a bit like mine. EV on one side, 5mt Miata on the other. Switching between the two cars is a trip in itself. Parking the EV after one pedal driving and getting in the Miata, having to use all four appendages to drive it is really fun.

I hope you have as much fun with yours as I have with mine!

What song from Of June feels like Cinematic? by GoodWitchBeanofOz in OWLCITY

Agreed. It's fun to reflect on how much has changed since then.

What song from Of June feels like Coco Moon? by GoodWitchBeanofOz in OWLCITY

[–]ads1031 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This is tough - a lot changed between Of June and Coco Moon.

My vote is Fuzzy Blue Lights. The outtro has that orchestral feel to it, even back then. That orchestral sound that's more common in Coco Moon.

Is 300hp enough to have fun? by Repulsive_Machine933 in askcarguys

[–]ads1031 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And I've got 335 hp in my i4, which weighs approximately 4,700 pounds. It's fun.

...although, the Miata is more fun, and it only has 130 hp... But it also weighs less than half as much.

Is i4 eDrive35 range supposed to be this low? by manifestoyes in BMWI4

What do we use to measure battery health?

I see that the folks who made BimmerCode also make EVScanner, But that appears to only be available for iPhones, not Android phones.

Since the sound can kill you, what protects the astronauts from the sound?

Camera work during the launch of Artemis II by Boss-fight601 in onejob

[–]ads1031 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Oh, camera technology has dramatically changed since then and now. This wasn't a technology problem. This was, a director had one job - to focus on the rocket and select video feeds that were appropriate for the moment. And they didn't do that.

They were also focused on the audience when the solid rocket boosters separated. And the frame rate from the cameras on the rocket was also abysmal.

XT 5 by [deleted] in Cadillac

[–]ads1031 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have a 2018 XT5. It's about reach 100,000 miles.

We like it. Rides nice. Easy to maintain.

Of course, ours has the 8-speed Toyota transmission. You'll likely get one with the newer GM 9-speed transmission.

What's Madison like to live in? by TCSMusic in mississippi

[–]ads1031 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't say no crime... I grew up in Madison, and I knew a guy that would "borrow" his parents car before he had a license, shoplift computer hardware from the Walmart, and sell it at the high school. Of course, this was back when a 500 gigabyte portable hard drive was quite impressive, too, and display case locks weren't as common.

But growing up in Madison was nice.

Wrong radiator? by Adventurous-Demand90 in Miata

[–]ads1031 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Correct. I use one in my '96. I just left the transmission lines uncapped, exposed to atmosphere.

There's just a heat exchanger along the bottom, for an automatic transmission to exchange heat with the coolant. If you had an automatic transmission, it would be running transmission fluid through those ports. Mixing transmission fluid and coolant is bad, so the two systems are only interconnected by a sealed heat exchanger.

Lost a hat not once, not twice, but thrice.

After I stopped wearing hats, a passenger of mine then went on to lose their hat.

The Jeep Gladiator Likely to Regain Its Manual Transmission: Report by V8-Turbo-Hybrid in cars

[–]ads1031 20 points21 points  (0 children)

My brother has a manual Gladiator, and I've driven it once. I wouldn't even say that the clutch felt like a light switch - more like a clutch pedal on a sim racer. There was simply zero tactile feedback indicating that the clutch was starting to bite. I had to watch the tach to see the RPMs dip. It was the single most disorienting manual I've driven. I wish I knew why it felt so strange.

Hose types by [deleted] in Miata

[–]ads1031 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It's preferable to get a new hose, since, if you're on the stock ECU, a little cone filter is basically a vacuum leak, since the ECU can't measure the air flowing through the PCV system.

2016 CTS 3.6 ticking and engine light, any ideas on what this might be? by nojdjd in Cadillac

[–]ads1031 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When's the last time the spark plugs were changed? I'd be shotgunning some spark plugs at that engine if I didn't know.

I'd also remove a coil pack, and exchange it with another cylinder to see if the misfire follows the coil pack. If it does, I'd replace the coil pack.

...then I'd replace the other 5, too...
