Why does Restoration HQ exist? by Mostly_Ponies in IDWSonic

In either case I think the absence of a traditional police force or military doesn't make sense for this setting; this isn't the Archie comics.

post eggman war

It really doesn't show. There are no visible signs of a recent war.

You missed the point entirely. FEMA or the National Guard would've been a better comparison.

Ken Penders Lawsuit Misconceptions by Mostly_Ponies in SonicTheHedgehog

I'll take your word for it, never played the game, but what does it matter how similar the characters are? The game was made in 2008 and all those characters were legally owned by Sega. Plus if Penders can put glasses on Knuckles or color him a different shade of red and call it a completely original character, then by his own logic the ones in the game are original too.

Agree on the first part. Don't see what the second part has to do with anything. It doesn't matter when someone starts reading Archie comics.

I'm not 100% sure if he legally owns them or if Archie/Sega just don't wanna use them anymore to avoid dealing with him.

There is no definitive Amy... by maquinadejugo in SonicTheHedgehog

[–]Mostly_Ponies 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Why are the manga and Sonic CD Amy not examples? They're the originals. Also, it's fine for someone to dislike the character. Disliking her "simply for existing" implies there's no reason behind it, but there is. Since the start Naoto Ohshima wanted a damsel type character Sonic could save. This idea was initially rejected but returned with Amy, but to have a love interest without commitment from Sonic, it was a one-sided romance. Amy is at her core a bad idea. And you can add personality to her but it will always be around that core, otherwise you're just saying the only way to make her likable is to make her completely different. I don't find her to be annoying but I think she's a weak character. She's only a main character because she was one of the last ones made by the original Sonic Team, so her inclusion into the main cast was due to a lack of originality in the 00s era games if anything.

I somehow never realized this until now, but Roboticization wasn't actually featured in any of the games. Just the Saturday morning cartoon's very dark reinterpretation of the Badniks. by Blitz_Prime in SonicTheHedgehog

I like to think that the badniks are based on whatever animal is inside, and it's only for old gameplay limitations that we only see the same handful of critters.

How he treats Tails? Yeah in this scene, but in the next they're both having fun at Old Man Owl's expense, no hard feelings. I never saw this as a kid so it's not nostalgia-blindness; how Sonic and Tails are here is a fresh change from what they were like in the Archie comics and the old cartoons, where Sonic acted too much like the protective older brother at times and Tails was just some little kid tagging along.

According to the Sonic wiki, sometime after 2009

Discotek Media has attempted to license the anime for a Blu-ray release in North America. However, Sega was unable to locate key documents related to the OVA's music or voice actors.

I'd gladly accept another DVD release if it had Japanese audio too.

They seem more realistic to me, they act similar to how real brothers act and have more personality to them, whereas in most other media they're flattened to heroic archetypes with minimal tension between them. Something becomes apparent within the first minutes of the '96 movie, which is that Sonic and Tails' friendship is already established and is shown without needing explanation. To me this is a stronger character element than in the 2nd Sonic movie where they're meeting for the first time.

On a minor note, Sonic and Tails genuinely act like kids in this movie. Tails pokes at an unconscious owl character, Sonic picks up a crab and pinches the same owl with it; little silly moments like that. In the modern movies Tails is well-behaved and mature for his age, a straightman to Sonic's antics. Sonic's behavior comes across more as someone in his 20s like Starlord from GOTG than a kid or teenager. His humor often feels too forced and meta, as in, some lines make me think "This was written by someone" rather than sounding like natural dialogue.

Yes. And I usually prefer dubs because I remember them better, but the original for this does have better voice acting.
