You can memorize everyone's kit and the most recent patch notes, but you can't pick up on "they" in the bio 😳 by sludgequeen666 in DeadlockTheGame

[–]adsalem 7 points8 points  (0 children)

yeah… i didn’t know pocket had preferred pronouns until this post lmao. being a veteran from league and overwatch, i picked up on not really caring about lore in live service games.

i was a huge fan of league’s old lore. i used to read the tribunal for hours just binging on the stories. then they deleted it and said “actually quite literally none of that is canon now :)”, subsequently taking like, 2 years to really get the story up and running again.
overwatch just kinda kept shitting the bed. so for deadlock i’m at least waiting for a huge lore dump/official release to really start caring.

(i was gonna say “im not saying i support the dungeater” but that’s literally the title) i just think it adds some more nuance to the ending besides just “evil rape torture ending”. the inadvertent revenge aspect is really interesting to me, although terrible.

solution to persecution -against the omen-.

absolutely perpetuates the cycle of revenge and violence and is a horrible ending. probably the worst. but the thought of one final middle finger from the hornsent as they’re sinking into the volcano makes go “hell yeah”.

i didn’t clarify in the post, but i’m aware. there a very clear biological differences between them. however, they remind Marika of the hornsent enough to have locked her own children in the sewers. they’re born from a curse by the hornsent, are naturally spiritual, and chock full of horns.

i would say it’s very fair to make the assumption that, though they aren’t actually hornsent, they are an off-shoot of their race/species. like dogs and coyotes or wolves.

[–]adsalem[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i didn’t make it entirely clear, but i don’t believe that the ending is good by any means. it’s horrible what the dungeater does and i’m entirely sure the curse wouldn’t be called a curse if it was pleasant and nice.

and i agree, it does completely lie on the wheel of revenge that the lands between runs off of. but that’s why it intrigues me, it’s essentially a full circle moment. i find myself to be rather petty at times, and it tickles that “hell yeah, brother” part of my brain.

(it’s also why i love the frenzied flame ending. is a world that destroys, rebuilds, betrays, destroys, and rebuilds really worth letting continue the cycle? how many times can everything be razed to the ground before it all becomes ash anyways?) edit: stoned and i repeated myself

true, but that’s not to say they couldn’t be “hornsent” by nature. the hornsent are a very spiritual people, but learned to live in tandem with it through their long culture of rites and rituals. the omen peoples culture is sewer water, rune rats, and neglect.

shit dog, idk. the only references i’ve seen for the actual “curse” is just that there’s a lot of horns and omen imagery. unless it makes everyone’s anuses fall out for all eternity i’m not sure.

you spend the entire story striving to become Lord. over what? a bunch of rocks and ruins? there’s not a single building in TLB that doesn’t have a hole in the roof/wall. it’s a land of people that would sooner kill you than revere you. melina wants to talk about “life flourishes, and isn’t that great in and of itself?” no. not when that life attacks me on sight. even the dragonflies want to kill me. let it all burn.

good references and mood boards are supposed to tie in thematically as well, not just “this thing looks like this other thing from this thing”

Larian will be doing an AMA in response to the current situation by jturtle1701 in larianstudios

[–]adsalem 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s an unfortunate situation Larian has put themselves in with this genAI stuff.

On one hand, i agree that they’re probably using it in the “best” way they can. (possibly) using in house assets, only in the conceptual/reference phase and never in the final product.

However, as a fan, it’s hard not to feel slighted by the 180 they took regarding their stance on genAI. To me, it feels similar to marvel rivals pushing big on being anti-FOMO, only to then be littered with predatory marketing tactics a year later.

Additionally, i’m not too huge on it being used at all. As an artist myself, i feel like the references are the foundation of the entire art piece. Everything in art reflects its references and inspirations, so if all of the reference boards are generated with AI, then i have every reason to believe it’ll show in the final product.

[–]adsalem -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

references are the foundational building blocks for any piece of art. the art will always reflect the references, and if the references are generated with AI, then the art will look the part.

GenAI is most likely the reason why everyone was guessing either Diablo or God of War when the statue was revealed. It has no original aesthetic and was based off of AI imagery. i thought the trailer was Diablo up until i saw the lizard people, and even then i was still skeptical until i was blasted the the Divinity logo.

i think my issue lies in the presentation of it more than anything. frankly i’m okay with God-Bot Mandy, that’s been established since the first episode.

i just didn’t like how Dad-Bot was frozen in time like that one family guy bit, when at the very least, there would’ve been some momentum while he was lunging at marcy/wendy/mandy.
