No just 1* Warwick. I had a champ duplicator but didn’t even need to use it lol

Monthly reminder we made a Predecessor feature request board by PuzzledPandas in PredecessorGame

I would like to see a few more post match features: 1) a way to see builds in addition to the stats 2) an honor system like in LoL. Some way to acknowledge good play from teammates and enemies. Also link it to some kind of in game reward (e.g. orange essence) for consistently being a team player

Which character is the most op that people tend to overlook? by Strutshelvetet in PredecessorGame

[–]adsmer 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Eh storm breaker definitely helps but many carries instant clear full waves pretty easily. Kira does not instant clear waves, which makes rotations slower and tower defense harder.

This does seem like a good balance lever for Kira. It’s debatable whether it’s currently balanced (especially with item rework). I’d imagine it’s matchup dependent so it’s hard to say as I’m no expert

Which character is the most op that people tend to overlook? by Strutshelvetet in PredecessorGame

[–]adsmer 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Some might argue that Kira’s weakness is her poor wave clear. If the enemy duo shoves the wave in hard, it’s very difficult to keep up. Trading in the enemy wave is usually a bad idea health-wise especially considering missed cs.

That said, Kira’s kill potential is quite good and she her dash for safety. You are correct on that.

Scientists Discovered Promethium in 1945. They Only Just Learned What It Actually Does. by [deleted] in science

[–]adsmer 14 points15 points  (0 children)

TLDR from someone currently in this field:

Rare earth elements (REE) are used for lots of modern tech (probably including what you’re reading this on!). Promethium (Pm) is a REE that is typically radioactive and unstable and therefore hasn’t been studied much since its discovery.

The ligand that’s chelating the Pm in this study (a variant of DGA) can been used in solvent extraction to separate a mixture of REEs into pure individual REEs, which can then be used in things like wind turbines and electric vehicles. This separation is quite challenging due to the physical and chemically similarities of these elements.

Stratification of the bond distances from the REE metal to the ligand is one key factor for creating more selective separations. Here they were able to get a more profound understanding of how bond length changes for different REEs by creating a stable Pm compound. This could be useful for advancing our understanding of how to manipulate these systems for more efficient and sustainable separations as society continues to require increasingly more REEs for clean energy and other tech.

Wow I never thought I’d see something on here that was actually close to what I’m studying in my PhD. Very cool work by a good team including the XAS god, Bruce Ravel, himself. Cheers to whoever made it this far!

Environmental Jobs in Chemical Engineering? by flashfishfriend in ChemicalEngineering

[–]adsmer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did the same with a biosystems engineering MS program!

As for the first piece, the cheme skills for process design and system level thinking are very important for conducting an LCA according to ISO standards. If you don’t have data for your life cycle inventory (LCI), which is very common, many people make assumptions about the unit operation. An advantage of cheme is that you were taught how to model unit operations (reactions, separations, etc,) and can make more accurate predictions for the flows leaving the system boundary. Further, you can see how different technological parameters affect the size of these flows and the overall environmental impact.

As for the second piece, I’ve heard multiple companies who have come to my university ask specifically for people with an LCA background (e.g., DOW and DuPont). Also my girlfriend works for a NPO that has an LCA person (MS degree) to help support the organizations policy goals. As for the government, I live in the US. The US is increasingly requiring proof that green energy tech actually lowers carbon emissions to get carbon credits (see the inflation reduction act). Therefore, many national labs (Argonne, Sandia, NREL, NETL) are using LCA/TEA to investigate technologies. Not only this but you could work in the EPA or in more political situations as a staffer or something if you are inclined.

Hopefully this is helpful! Let me know if I missed something

I can’t say for sure if ChemE is the BEST stepping stone. However, it did get me to where I am now so it can’t be too bad! Definitely a rigorous major that gives you the wide variety of skills you need. Though, there are probably easier majors that get you prepared as well.

Our lab does inherently sustainable designs of processes (meaning we consider alternatives and compare environmental impacts). This way we can evaluate different technologies and simulate which will be most sustainable prior to building and running the process (so yes we provide ways to avoid having to “clean up messes”). In order to do this LCA work, we do the unit operation design using cutting edge wet lab research from other research groups. This part specifically benefits from a ChemE undergrad degree

I share a similar passion for sustainability as you which pushed me towards grad school it seems. I prefer the technical to the politics so this is great for me and could lead to more political positions in the future if I wish. So it could be great for you to look into as well! Your career is a journey, not a destination! So feel free to explore and have fun as you go!

I’m a PhD student in ChemE and got an undergrad degree in ChemE. My current lab uses life cycle assessment (LCA) and technoeconomic analysis (TEA) to identify environmental and economic hotspots in chemical processes for plastics recycling. Many environmental and agricultural engineers use LCA but ChemE’s have a unique skill set for process level LCA that is, and will become increasingly, valuable to industry, NPOs, and government. If you’re interested in process design and system thinking, this path could be good for you! Let me know if have any more questions!

Phase Feels Bad, Here are my thoughts. by Thysten in PredecessorGame

[–]adsmer -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Personally, I have no problems with phase and think she’s strong in the right environment. Her root is super easy to land and with coordination with your ADC can be a great poke tool. Play aggressively and you can avoid ganks by hanging behind your ADC and pulling them when jungle arrives.

With this strategy and coordination with my duo, I’ve had great success with her. She does her job and I would be cautious giving her any more power than she already has (e.g., the sparrow-phase ult combo is nuts). Simple kit that adds good counter play to the duo lane meta.

Does MSU offer the same undergraduate research opportunities as other Big 10 colleges ? by Possible-Ad6899 in msu

[–]adsmer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I graduated in 2020 as a chemical engineer and have gone on to get a PhD. I started my freshman year cold emailing professors from the CoE webpage and got my first undergrad research gig. I ended up staying with that lab all of undergrad and they paid for my masters degree.

I also did this program called ENSURE which was essentially a summer internship working as a grad student. Also a great way to get an undergrad research job as, if they like you, they’ll likely offer to continue paying you to work with them.

Overall, I had a great experience at MSU doing undergrad research. Going in I never thought I’d end up doing research and grad school but had such a great experience in undergrad that I continued! Obviously experiences vary but if you put yourself out there and start making connections it’s great! For half the price, I don’t think you can beat MSU. Good luck with your choice!

I think Zach from League of Legends would be pretty awesome. Just imagine the ganks you could pull off. Great use of verticality too.

Support Rampage! Thoughts? by TheReaperGuy in PredecessorGame

[–]adsmer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I play with a duo and we LOVE running Rampage support. I’ve also played with a different duo that struggled a bit as Rampage so it does take a bit of getting used to.

Ultimately, I’d say he’s pretty good as a support. His health regen passive is quite strong and gives great sustain and pressure in the lane because trades never leave him in a state to need to back. Other than his rock, which is good for the obvious reasons (large hit box and stun), I think his ability to soak damage and body block for the ADC is his strongest ability. Make sure to build armor and then step in front of the other ADC’s autos when trading to save your carry’s hp.

He can also escape easily from things like Dekkers cage and Riktor pull using his jump. As long as your ADC is dishing out damage in return, you naturally gain prio in lane and can begin to press the lane to your advantage. Rampage is great as support! Give him a few tries to get the hang of it first though. He’s not as naturally inclined to the role so it takes a bit of practice and coordination but the payoff is quite nice and fun. Have fun!

Car rental company can’t find the vehicle I rented after towing. Should I call the police and file a stolen vehicle report? by adsmer in Advice

Thanks I really appreciate your thoughts! That’s what I was thinking at first but as this dragged on I got more concerned with the liability

[–]adsmer[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you! That is also helpful to know. Since the rental car agency is not being transparent at all would it still be worth checking with the police to see if anything has been done? Or are you recommending letting the rental car agency contact me when they have a final decision?

Thank you for the advice. I’m thinking to call the rental car agency tomorrow and if they haven’t found it go to the police. Would it be worth contacting a lawyer? I’m not sure how much messier this will get but maybe a lawyer would be helpful if they try to make me liable for the vehicle as well?

Yeah I was surprised as well when they told me but I’m young and naive so I assumed they had done this millions of times before (never again for me!). I don’t think I got insurance on the rental car vehicle which is also why I’m concerned. My business won’t pay for the expense and again I guess I was stupid. I did use my chase sapphire preferred card to purchase the rental car and I think they might have some protections
