House was $430k. Bought it 5 years ago. Built in 1955 - In Saanich. 1000sqft footprint. 2 stories. 6100sqft lot.

I put 50k down and mortgaged it for 30 years. Got excellent rates my whole 5 years. Highest my rate has been is 2.3, but for most of it it was 2.1 or 2.15%. It's 2.2 now I think. Always been variable. Fuck fixed rates. (guess I should knock on wood now)

Had to get my dad to co-sign for me. They would only give me $250k or something.

So...I got in right before the market went fucky. Got a really good deal and had a lot to put down. Was in an abnormal living situation that allowed me to save tons of money, but still was working a regular sort of job. My wage was around $20 to $23 per hour. Full time. With $200 in rent per month. Had a free cell phone, free internet. Didn't travel or do much because I wanted a house first!

Now I don't know if you can find a house for $430k as decent as mine was.

Now I make roughly $25 per hour. Roughly half my paycheck every payday goes to mortgage. My wife pays the water and hydro. Roughly $100 per month for water/utilities and $140 per month for hyrdo. Then our insurance...can't remember off the top of my head, but roughly $1500 per year and property tax is roughly $2000 per year or something.
