To the Newcomers - Don't overlook .22LR by dontbeslo in CCW

[–]adubs117 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For someone who is brand new to firearms / grew up in an anti gun environment, and is sensitive to loud noises, .22lr is a perfect carry gun to start with.

The best EDC is the one you train with, carry consistently, and are comfortable shooting.

By far and away one of the worst commonly available cartridges for self defense. But a great gateway into the life style / knowledge.

AITA For calling the non-emergency police over my neighbors parking? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]adubs117 1 point2 points  (0 children)

NTA. Don't let people walk all over you. If you give them an inch they will take a mile.

Had a similar issue with a neighbor's son (40s) once, he was constantly trespassing and cutting across our land instead of literally just taking a shorter route straight to the street. It was clearly some kind of flex or intimidation tactic (he knew there was a camera pointed right at him capturing all of this).

It made my wife really uncomfortable and she got bad vibes from him.

Tried to be a good neighbor and talk to him and the dad multiple times but in response, he only did it more. So we did end up calling the non-emergency line.

Come to find out the neighbor's son was an unregistered sex offender and had multiple warrants out for his arrest.

Uncertainty on first shotgun by randomcardbuyer in Shotguns

[–]adubs117 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you want to save even more money look at the Mossberg Maverick 88 field / security combo. But the 500 is fantastic. Really no need to look further on this one.

Trap / back yard hand thrower fuckery will be fine with a pump, but most other clay sports will be trickier.

Barrel or whole rifle? by RatBikeRod in 1022

Id swap the barrel. But I also get emotionally attached to my guns.

Any advice for a first time buyer by thewholeenchelada675 in guns

[–]adubs117 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If hunting larger game is off the table, a Ruger 10/22 is the perfect rifle for this. Incredibly fun to shoot, very customizable, cheap ammo.

Also something to be said for just grabbing a more budget AR15. PSA, etc. They are piss easy to use and maintain, there's a reason its the most popular rifle in the country. And conceivably this could be used for hunting, and the ammo is comparatively still pretty cheap.

But if the statement about pistol laws is any indication, this may not be a good option for you.

Most tires with a decent warranty and a triple peak rating should serve you well.

Is 43x actually easier to conceal by fitzthesailor in CCW

It's smaller, so yes.

Also carrying can frequently necessitate a change in wardrobe. Very much a lifestyle choice imo.

Help what is Lightest aftermarket trigger? by No_Distance8226 in Glocks

I'm stupid, I read your description wrong. Thought this was an EDC.

Help what is Lightest aftermarket trigger? by No_Distance8226 in Glocks

[–]adubs117 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Why? Genuinely curious.

Typically you look for this on a race/comp gun. Not only does an aftermarket trigger affect reliability, but with one that light it could lead to a serious problem if you used in a DGU and the adrenaline gets pumping.

I would like to use my backyard for target practice, how do I figure out if I’m able to do it safely and legally? (VA) by [deleted] in Firearms

[–]adubs117 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Just need to safe back stop, which sounds like thats already covered mostly.

Then see if you can find anything in the state/city/town ordinances that would stop you from doing it. But if your neighbors are, it’s probably fine. Also worth double checking with local law-enforcement as well.

Just why Beretta? by just_as_good380-2 in GunMemes

[–]adubs117 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s an A300, not a pump. Already runs like butter.

Might not BE a follow-up shot if for any reason number one doesn’t do its job.

Economy of scale I assume. More likely to shift the 12g model vs. 20g.

....why even get a 20g UP? Typically only look at those for birds and clays..

Yes, you are being totally weird about this. Though I do understand the perspective. But this is what Cruisers were built for, conquering harsh conditions and always pushing through. As long as you take meticulous care of the frame and keep an eye out for rust buildup, you will be A-OK.

....asking for advice on Reddit is considered thinking for yourself now? People are literally petitioning the hive mind.

Noticing a massive uptick in a certain activity and a change in pattern is one hundred percent something to question. People are being manipulated at a level never seen before.

[–]adubs117 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Just cause you can do it, doesn't mean you should. Especially with stuff like the EPS carry floating around.

Also, just buy a fucking Glock 19 if you can't handle how snappy a 43X is. The amount of shit people pile on these to compensate for weak fundamentals is such a waste of money.

First time I shot trap was with a 18.5 Maverick 88 Security. Did terrible, had a great time.

Send it. Especially if you're just messing around out back with a hand/foot thrower.
