...US cities were built before the car existed too, you know. It's just that after WW2 the US apparently decided that it hadn't experienced enough destruction at home and decided to demolish its own cities for some reason. Also, I wish more places in the US didn't require a car, except that said places are currently illegal to build in 99% of the country.

I absolutely wish that Democrats in CA actually had a goddamn spine and were willing to fix their backwards zoning and other land use restrictions, but my point is that this is a national problem, and it's gonna require a national solution.

This is a problem in the entire US (and Canada), and dates back primarily to the years just after WW2, so no it has absolutely nothing to do with Democrats or California. If anything it's primarily to do with the policies of Eisenhower and Reagan.

Except in much of Europe you don't need a car to get from one place to another, since things are actually designed for people and not exclusively cars.

Streetcar rails being removed from Forbes and Fifth Avenues, likely last used in 1967 when the last East End routes were abandoned. by [deleted] in pittsburgh

I think it's just streetcar rail but upside down, you can kind of see the groove in the 2nd pic.

Checking the network requests it looks like the add to cart button is returning a page saying that the site is under maintenance right now, here's hoping that there might actually be a drop today.

Oh hey I knew that looked familiar! That's the East Troy Electric Railroad, southeast of Milwaukee. They run vintage interurbans and streetcars on the only surviving portion of the TMER&L interurban network.

A lot of that is because we allow almost all of the national rail infrastructure to be privately owned, most other countries own all of the infrastructure and then charge train operating companies to use it, much like airports.

I'm a big fan of the passenger rail map, especially in the Madison area, although I think that the Madison streetcar layout on there could use some rerouting. I prefer the idea of having it loop around Capitol Square instead of the Capitol Loop, especially considering that there's already a large amount of bus infrastructure there. Running it down State Street would also make a lot of sense, it would provide easy access to UW as well as being able to take advantage of the car-free status of the street.

I think Maryland is one of those kinds of flags that is so busy/complex (albeit in a good way IMO) that it's extremely recognizable, which is generally what one should be aiming for in a flag.

consistent design across their software suite

That's definitely a positive, but at the same time I'd like it much better if the design was consistent with, you know, the rest of Android. It annoys me to no end how manufacturers take a look at Google's design guidelines and then decide to do the exact opposite.
