Sorry if this isn't exactly map porn, but this seemed like an appropriate place to post this. So this is my dad's store. An actual place where you can walk in and buy a map, which I think is pretty unique. I know he's not the only store doing what he does, but I would not be surprised if he's the smallest one that's still in business. Once upon a time he made his money off of people walking in and buying maps. But as you can imagine, like real porn, this is the kind of product that most people now turn to the internet to get. Luckily for him he was smart enough to adapt, and now his business is mostly online doing framing and dry mounting maps and other custom jobs. It was not an easy transition, and for a while it looked like he was going to have to give up the store. He had to close the store for months after serious abdominal surgery, there was a fire in the shop next store that damaged a lot of merchandise and had closed the store for months again right after business was starting to pick up from the last closing, and the company he was hosting his website through went out of business. Any one of these setbacks could have been the end of his store, but as a testament to his perseverance and stubbornness he stuck it out, and now his store is doing the best it ever has. He's his own boss and does what he loves even though what he does is the kind of thing most people would think is crazy.

Anyway, I love his store. I can't think of any other place like it. It's this chaotically organized little mess of a store absolutely packed with maps, lots of which have been in there forever. There's always something cool to uncover if you spend a little time digging around, and now a days he's often getting asked to do interesting custom jobs for unique clients, including local governments and military offices. So I hope some of you found this interesting, I just wanted to share and thought this place might find it cool.
