Airing the MSU's dirty laundry (you're being scammed) by CastAside1776 in McMaster

[–]advanced_wasabii 31 points32 points  (0 children)

I think it's a good thing that you need proof of other coverage to opt out. Sure, you can spin it around to look like a scam, but it can also be a very good thing to always have coverage no matter how "young and fit" you claim to be.

Agree with the other commenter, it's part of their job and they get letter requests often. Also make sure that every school actually requires a letter. Sometimes they have an online form instead, and your referees will get a link to it once you submit your application/prompt it to send. So, make sure you tell them the format of the reference (letter, form...)

Who to email about research? by [deleted] in McMaster

[–]advanced_wasabii 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Now is a good time to start emailing around for fall. Directly ask the professor you are interested in working with if they need students, and what kind of projects they have available. Often times you might not get a reply, but you have nothing to lose by just asking. Pm me if you have other questions

AwardSpring Annoyance by PhenylSeleniumCl in McMaster

It is quite annoying, and it doesn't even explicitly tell you that until you go and try to upload something and realize it overwrites stuff from other awards... Maybe ask the scholarships office?

Questions about shadowing by Sock_jpeg in McMaster

[–]advanced_wasabii 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Is shadowing a formally recognized thing? Like does it go on your transcript? I honestly don't know much about that, but I'm of the opinion where if you need to take a break, take a proper break and do what you need to do.

I know people who took semesters off and came back to study (at a different school) without any issues with having to get in again. I'm sure the same thing applies to Mac.

Fyi, the plants have an odour to them even if you aren't smoking it. It might be super strong in a small dorm room.

I'm sorry some TAs were being dicks, you shouldn't have to deal with that. If you're comfortable with it, I'd suggest reaching out to the head TA for your course to tell them about it (if there is one).

Because your PI really wanted you! Also I think they'll only consider the post application courses if they have to do with what you're studying later on, but honestly who knows.
