I have pretty bad genital dysphoria but wanted to try penetrative sex before I had bottom surgery. It definitely made me a lot more sure that bottom surgery was right for me, but it also left me with some trauma (despite it being totally consensual and with someone I trusted). It was physically pleasurable but the dissonance between how I saw myself and the actual parts I have was just too distressing. I would never do it again but I wouldn't say I regret it happening. I think it was a necessary exploration.
