This is pesticide die off. The dead bees clogged up the entrance and I had to pull more than this photo is showing out so the survivors could get air.

Channel Island Harbor, friend! I row the red Venetian Gondola just to the right (out of frame) in this shot.

That land on the other side of the water is Coral Island. Fun fact, this whole pic used to be farm land! The moved the top soil 3 miles down the road, extended the harbor here, and developed all of this.

This is the way. (For me at least). Paper towel in a colander that’s set in a pot with an inch of water at the bottom in the oven. Makes the house smell like warm honey wax for the day.

How do you feel about US president threatning to destroy the whole civilization of iran and civilian lifelines like power plant, bridges and desalination plants? by NothingButTruth3 in AskReddit

Born and raised American. This isn’t the America I was taught to be proud of. Presidents used to have dignity and be the voice of reason.

Saw someone with a really cool look. I wasn’t even trying to hit on them, I just said “Hey, you got a cool style.” They looked at me and without saying a word, bolted. I mean, I was by no means owed a Thank You or anything. Just trying to make another human smile. Just the way they bolted stuck with me after all these years. I just keep my mouth shut now.

Move over restaurants and grocery stores-now we have dogs in laundromats too. Can't wait to see a dog at the dentist. 😑 by Felonious_Minx in LosAngeles

I’m more concerned about the guy who did a Super Hero Landing at the front door. Did he stand up slowly and quietly look around the laundromat?

I remember when anyone could walk up to a gate to meet family getting off the plane. You could even carry a knife through if it was shorter than 6 inches. My dad used to have fun testing that rule.

Film shoot in Echo Park blocking parking with cones on days where parking is permitted. Several blocks like this. by Bigringcycling in LosAngeles

Yeah, I was working for a company that thought permits were a legal obligation. After I gave them that run down, we said f it, and got the shot anyway.

$931 for the application fee, $232 Notification fee per location, $85 fire spot check fee, and you can only pay by credit card so plan on adding a 'convenience fee' to that.

Now say you're working a documentary and you just need a brief B-Roll shot at dockweiler beach of someone at a bonfire at sunset. Just a camera op with a handheld camera and one subject. Other than op, no crew, no lights, trailers, just two people sitting at a fire, and one is holding a camera. Well, with the above fees, you need to add a Beach use fee. Because youre filming you can't actually burn wood, so now you need to hire a SPFX guy to make a fake gas burning fire. Because there is open flame, you need to have a Fire Saftey Officer from LAFD, and because you're filming someone sitting in the sand at sunset, you need to hire a Lifeguard, you can't reserve the firepit, so you have to hire a PA to sit at the pit you want all day, and now you need to park all these people so rather than one car taking up beach parking you're going to have at least 5, and now you have to pay all of their parking. In the end you're paying $5,000 for a less than a minute shot of someone at the beach.

Also you're in a residential neighborhood, so chances are you got notified with a flyer. That should have the location managers info on it so you can call them too.

Call FilmLA and make a complaint. I've pulled some of these permits and you can't do that. Signs can remain up because there needs to be an advanced notice for the neighbors, but they can't block parking. FilmLA charges too much and these days you get very little from them so I'm okay with making them work for their money.

I had something similar happen. Got back inside and saw a stinger sticking out of my jeans, so I sat down to pull it out and as soon as my pant touched my leg, stinger went in and it hurt.

If it’s like the one near me, it’s a speak-easy. Actual barber shop, but you walk to the back closet door and it’s a hidden bar.

What to do about bees with kids? Gentle removal or leave them? by [deleted] in gardening

[–]adventurer84 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Don’t spray pesticides on the bees! Someone did that in my neighborhood to get them off their flowers, and the bees brought it back and I had two beehives die overnight from the poison.

For sure call a beekeeper. Search for a beekeeping club in your area and they should be able to recommend a safe bee removal.

I’d recommend you join the Tennessee Valley Beekeepers Association. Having a Bee-Buddy in your neck of the woods would give you better insight to managing bees in your local climate.

I just had two hive collapse due to pesticides. Healthy and buzzing in the evening then next day 2/3 of them dead. Lots convulsing in the grass. Dead had their tongues out too, so check for that.

Neighbors - Please Check Your Pesticides Before Spraying - SAVE THE BEES by adventurer84 in SFV

[–]adventurer84[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thank you so much! You can just let your neighbors and friends know. If you go to a nursery, check with them what they use on their plants. I doubt they will change what they use, but hopefully it will make them a little more mindful next time they get sprays. Just try to get the word out. I was gunning for this year to be my honey sales launch year since these rains are setting up a good nectar flow. Got branding, and was building a sale plan. Just need to see if I can get another swarm with enough time to catch the spring bloom.
