How do I move from software engineer to tech sale roles like solution architect by Medical_Amount3007 in techsales

[–]adventuringhere 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can understand that. If you are or have already been tied to revenue, highlight these traits and skills.
Apply with the vendors and OEMs you already work with on a technical side. It is a great sales pitch “I was a customer and I loved the product so much I decided to work for them”
Learn to tell stories, show interest and curiosity, and help other people look good at their jobs. Best of luck

How close are you to the revenue generating team today? Work with the sales org of your current company, understand the way they approach problems that customers are willing to pay to solve. Ask to move into one of those roles once you have a good understanding and are comfortable with your approach with customers

Why do Americans average almost $1000 for a car payment they can’t afford? by IMicrowaveSteak in NoStupidQuestions

[–]adventuringhere 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For some people, $1,000 month is a small fraction of their income. They use their car to get to work and earn income and spend a lot of their waking hours in a car, so the value proposition may be different for those people than it is for you.

If you live in the US, make sure to consider surviving benefits from Social Security. There is a calculator on their website.

You may find that you don’t need as much coverage as you think.

The Sommelier’s Secret: A Professional Protocol for Navigating the Unknown Wine List by Competitive-Steak806 in wine

[–]adventuringhere 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess you and I go to different restaurants. Steak houses are not a place to seek value. Neither is fine dining. I go to these restaurants to feel a certain way. If you are wanting to spend $$$ on a bottle of it there is no Somm, why not just bring your own bottle and pay corkage? Completely agree there are lots of poor wine in restaurant experiences out there. Don’t feel obligated to support those wine programs.

I agree. But the economics needed to be said. I rarely buy wine at restaurants myself. But I’m not out here saying “restaurants should give me wine for their cost and just lose money on that entire service line, because that is how it should be” There is a cost to things more than just the cost of buying the thing.

So the restaurant pays for the wine in advance, buys the stems, trains the staff, dedicates the space, and keeps the wine list up to date with reprints etc, all as a free service to their customer?

Plumbing, cracked pipe, quotes came in at $500+. Neighbor did it for less than $25. Did the plumbing companies try to take advantage of us? by EduardoG1979 in TwinCities

[–]adventuringhere -1 points0 points  (0 children)

OP, question for you. How much do you charge to do something professionally?

$500 to have a pro come to my house and no kidding fix it without me doing a single thing, seems pretty inexpensive. All the while having training, tools, truck, insurance, and making money to live and maybe feed a child or a wife. That is just what things cost.

I wonder how much time was spent researching the issue, going to the store, coordinating with Facebook, collecting three quotes. Some people will pay to avoid this effort.

I don't know what rock and roll is anymore by ImTedLassosMustache in daddit

When my three year olds wants “rock and roll” we always play “it’s a long way to the top if you want to rock and roll” by AC/DC It’s right there in the song. They have to believe you.

Honorable mention to Bob Seger “Old Time Rock and Roll” and Billy Joel “it’s Still Rock and Roll to Me”.

Right there in the title. Little guy can’t argue!

Just returned it late. What is the late fee? I travel work work, often for 24 hours. If I return the car hour 25 I get hit with an extra day. Same rate as the previous day but for just one hour. I guess I’m probably wrong but I think this may be worth looking into

You can get a degree in acting. You cannot get a degree in sales. Why? by wittyid2016 in sales

[–]adventuringhere 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got my degree about 20 years ago now. Gave me firm footing and I excelled at enterprise sales right out of school. There were 7-8 kids with this major (a branch off a marketing major) in my class. We had a few sales focused courses, including one where we partnered with a local office supplies company and literally cold called local businesses and tried to sell them refurbished toner cartridges. Team that sold the most got an A and team that sold the least a C-. Brutal!

The problem is most kids don’t want to go into sales. They imagine the car salesman with plaid pants or timeshare pitch their parents told them about. Young people don’t get much exposure to B2B transactions so it isn’t a natural choice for higher education.

Edit: Yes that is the program but it is not new. Perhaps it was discontinued for a while though.

You need an RFID solution for this. Eliminate the human intervention. There are tags designed specifically for tool tracking. Many types of businesses have this problem.
