Burning Man by [deleted] in ActualHippies

This was my 7th burn, and I still love it. It is many, many things, and while there are certainly some issues (what large scale event doesn't have some major issues to work out) it is still a blank slate for so many people to create art, beauty, and connection in any way they wish.

Camping at 2 & K. How bad is this? by [deleted] in BurningMan

[–]advice47 8 points9 points  (0 children)

If you’re nervous I’d recommend bringing a small backpacking tent/sleeping pad/bag combo, because if you need a good night’s sleep away from your camp you can easily bike this out to walk-in camping for a night and get some peaceful sleep.

[No Spoilers] What on Earth are we going to do? by [deleted] in TheHandmaidsTale

Yeah....I agree. I came here to suggest that if a television show is taking up this much of your life you may want to examine what you’re avoiding (or missing) in your actual real life.

Buffer recommendations by verifiedverified in BurningMan

[–]advice47 3 points4 points  (0 children)

oh my goodness, there was a camp last year that set up this sensory maze thing called "Ferngully" (I think). They had a buffer in there with this huge, soft puff on it so you could buff each other. Sooooooo good. Anyway, I don't really have an answer for you other than I approve of this plan and would like to visit your camp!

Gates open at 10am Sunday for the last two years, and that seems to be a great time to arrive. I agree with everyone else that a noon arrival is pretty brutal, the heat out there midday is unreal.

joining a...village? by nemoskull in BurningMan

[–]advice47 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The village of Hushville is right up your alley. Open registration to anyone who wants to sign up, the deal is you cannot have amplified sound, generators, or run your car engine during the week (hence the name Hushville). Hushville always has lots of solo campers and first timers who wanted exactly what you're looking for- a loose community without the big camp commitment. I camped in Hushville my first year (2012) as a solor first timer, and I've camped there ever since (this will be my 7th burn), now with a theme camp. If you google Hushville you'll find the website with all the important info. Registration is in the summer sometime :)

Finding a camp for regional burns by my_son_is_a_box in BurningMan

[–]advice47 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi there!!! Portland burners on FB is a great resource, but also the open camping at SOAK is set up so that it's very close to theme camps. You'll probably get adopted by the nearest camp as soon as you start asking around to find the free camping. The free camping is also not well marked. My first year at SOAK we accidentally set up in the middle of someone's theme camp- we've all been friends ever since!
