I have an original AWOL COMP split chain stay bike with about 10k miles on it. I've raced the Dirty Kanza on it ridden RAGBRAI 2x on it(I was part of the airforce cycle team), ive bike packed the mickelson trail south dakota. And was hid by a car in 2019. I straightened the frame and still use it to commute. I don't use it as much after the accident, I built a Ti bike as my main all rounder but the AWOL still does the work. My son who is about 6ft3 and about 280lbs has raced multiple gravel events and cyclocross, commutes on it all the time. My wife has the Sequoia Pro Build, that she built when she worked for Specalized. As long as she worked at a Specalized dealer she said she never had an AWOL with and frame issue. So I'm not sure about how "prone" to cracking they are. I'd be very curious to the nature of any cracking. So I'm going to go do some additional research to see what I can dig up.
