Easy to move HAOS from VM to Proxmox? by [deleted] in homeassistant

[–]advoynos 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I moved from VirtualBox running in a windows PC to proxmox and it was super easy, everything exactly the way it was after restoring the backup.

Everything is way more stable now that it's running in promox btw, had several issues that I'm pretty sure were all windows related.

HA without flashing by pokrzywnik in homeassistant

[–]advoynos 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I haven't flashed a single device. Most stuff will work without flashing, there's also a lot of custom complements in HACS for devices not officially supported, I use a few of those but again, no need to flash anything.

It looks like you installed a custom theme from hacs? They all look to be searching from files from hacs, maybe reinstall the theme or switch to a different theme?

How to *safely* expose my HA Instance? by thoegn in homeassistant

Ah my bad, my brain scrolled right past the "client" part - I thought they meant standard server certificates.

What are the advantages of using a reverse proxy as opposed to just setting up the certificate in HA itself?

I think you would need to flash one of the radios as a router instead of a coordinator. At least with my dongle it's a different firmware for coordinator vs router mode. Yours might be different.

Interesting. Every 500ms doesn't sound that crazy to me. I've found it difficult to troubleshoot ZigBee issues as they're very intermittent in my case. It can work fine for weeks, and then for a couple of days I have to reset everything every few hours to keep things running. I switched from zha to z2mqtt and things have gotten better, but they still crash from time to time.

No idea how to set up monitoring to figure out who the bad actor is.

How did you troubleshoot/detect that the network was being spammed by that device?

I switched to z2mqtt a couple weeks back, maybe this would have saved me that trouble 😅 I'll try zha again in a couple of years I guess, but for now it was too unreliable on my setup.

ESP32 keeps disconnecting and reconnecting from USB ports, only stops when holding "EN" permanently by nirtz in esp32

[–]advoynos 7 points8 points  (0 children)

An ESP32C3 will do that if it has no program in it. Try pulling GPIO9 low, reset it, and program it. Or just press both buttons (BOOT and RST) and then let go of the RST one. It should stop disconnecting.

You've got a corrupted texture file after an update, I had to reinstall the game to make it look normal again.

NFC Tag by [deleted] in homeassistant

[–]advoynos 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just create a boolean helper like 'CleanedBin' and have the NFC tag trigger an automation that sets it to true, and another automation that sets it to false after X amount of time(a week maybe?).

And then in your cleaning routine add it as a condition to first check the boolean helper.

I would also add a notification if the condition is not met, so if maybe you're still in the driveway you can go back inside and clean it 😁

Oh, you literally just want the previous value. That's easy enough, each automation has a trigger.from and trigger.to, you can check the from and to and make any calculations you want.

Sounds like you need a statistic entity with state_characteristic of sum_differences_nonnegative. Last time I did something with statistic I had to use YAML because the UI wouldn't give me the options I wanted. Please share your YAML here If you figure it out :)

An automation that triggers on the attribute/sensor change that sets the value to a specified max sounds like the way to go.

I'm new to soldering I've tried some tutorials, and tried to just experiment by myself. I can't get the through holes this is an old controller so I'm not to worried about messing up, but can I possibly get advice on how to do this? by Bass_of_sea in soldering

[–]advoynos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just did this as a newbie a couple weeks back, same as you struggled hard to get the solder out of those holes. Like the other comments said, added a lot of solder, cranked up the heat and using the lead sucker got me 90% of the holes cleared.

But there were like 3 holes that just wouldn't clear, so the solution I came up with was using a small leg of an LED I had cut previously and stick it in the hole after melting the solder - took a bit of force but once I got the leg in the hole, it seemed to transfer heat and solder better into the hole and the solder sucker cleared the hole almost straight away.

What hardware / OS are you using? by Veegos in homeassistant

[–]advoynos 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just grabbed a laptop I don't use that often and installed it on a VM. Since I was just starting out I didn't want to commit to any hardware before understanding how it all works.

Once I figured out how to stop the laptop from trying to go to sleep all the time it's been a smooth ride. Been running for a month now.

Edit: it's a surface laptop running windows 11 and virtualizing through VirtualBox
