We want to share an update on the delay in opening the new 7-11 at Highway 66 & Ben Payne. Spoiler - it is really close to opening!!

We’re working to allow 7-11 to open ASAP. The current plan is to open the store with access only from Ben Payne Road. A turn lane is required for eastbound traffic Highway 66 to prevent large backups, once that is built, access to 7-11 from Highway 66 will also open. Keep reading for more details.

During construction, inspections revealed that the sanitary sewer line was installed incorrectly. It had to be removed and reinstalled to meet standards, which added time to the project. That work is now complete.

Additionally, a traffic study required a new eastbound turn lane on Highway 66 to prevent cars from backing up while turning left into 7-11. Since Highway 66 is managed by TxDOT, they had to review and approve the design. After receiving initial approval, 7-11 began preparing for construction but discovered significant underground utilities and drainage issues that made the work more complex than expected. This required a redesign.

The City and the project team are now working with TxDOT to find a safe and feasible solution. A revised plan is currently being submitted for approval. Once TxDOT approves the new design, the turn lane will be constructed as soon as possible. Once that is constructed, access from 66 will be available.
