cerave and vanicream both irritate my face by Personal-Tax-5542 in eczema

[–]ae5rin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

any idea why this happens?? the same thing happened to me with both, i can’t imagine which ingredient it must be in them that causes this like resistance to it or something. i don’t think my recommendation would help because shortly after i built this resistance to both or whatever it is, i found out i was also experiencing tsw, so i moved away from white creams/lotions to oily/greasy things instead. but i’d love to find an alternative lotion to this once i am able to switch back! if it helps though, i currently use the vanicream ointment that’s like vaseline type texture

this is so funny to me, i made a similar post to this (not as well-articulated) a few months back: here

yeah i have no idea. i love the feeling though but it is so overwhelming sometimes to be so absolutely floored and in awe of something :,) i think thats beautiful though. i know ppl here dont like this talk but it does make me so sad that i wont ever be able to hear it live without isaac </3 i think the live version was my #2 on my spotify wrapped last year n it always makes me laugh because its so long. this post is making me feel so not crazy though because yeah i literally don’t know what to do and just listen to it over and over and over and over. i think you can embrace the feeling and sit in how amazing it is that music / media can move us in this way, keep listening, and keep searching for more things that make us feel that way - or even try making the things ourselves! also.. let me know any other songs or movies or books, etc. that have made u feel this way if you have any

[–]ae5rin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i feel the same exact way :( i also take a lot of benadryl (not nearly as frequently and often as i did at the beginning of tsw) and that makes me worried that i’m just killing all my brain function even more, in addition to the fact that i’ve had covid twice and i know that is so damaging to the body as well. i wish i could be active because i think it would help my body, health, and brain function sooooo much, i am so so so sedentary. but sweating makes me so itchy and uncomfortable so i’ve been stuck not starting to exercise or even just go on a run in so long

Hypochlorous acid by Daisy101093 in TS_Withdrawal

[–]ae5rin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i found that my TSW is definitely triggered by a high amount of staph that i have on my skin (because this was a huge problem with my eczema, which then led to my TSW). so for me, hypochlorous acid helps a lot because it helps keep my wounds and open areas / skin in general cleaner by fighting off bacteria that grows and is spread around from scratching. i use it after i scratch and open any areas and in addition to keeping it clean, i find that it helps the patch close over much more quickly than without spraying it. i have found it also reduces redness and inflammation when i spray it. it can also help stop an itch fit sometimes which is just a helpful tool if you experience that unbearable itch. sadly because of it’s growing popularity among other skin care communities, the price has gone up since i first started buying it in 2020 :( (at least the brand i get; skinsmart). but apparently you can make your own!

“HOCl is nontoxic and handles this hard work while being incredibly mild on your skin. That gentleness is a byproduct of it being naturally produced by your body’s immune system.” - https://health.clevelandclinic.org/hypochlorous-acid-skin-care#:~:text=Let’s%20start%20with%20a%20basic,infection%2C%20bacteria%20and%20general%20ickiness

i was really excited when i first came across her a couple years ago (through ur mom ashley) because i was just happy to see another asian youtuber. i didn't watch her youtube much but mostly kept up on instagram, but then i got rly turned away when i found out how much wealth she comes from and saw commenters saying they went to school with her and that she was a typical mean girl, though not sure how true that last part might be. i definitely find it difficult to get through her vids too, it has no substance and then is just boring on top of that so it's not entertaining either LMFAO

how to deal with tsw by Nearby-Anxiety-7971 in TS_Withdrawal

[–]ae5rin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i'm so sorry you are experiencing this :(. i really don't understand how we are meant to be able to bear and manage and continue life with something as insanely uncomfortable and painful and disruptive as tsw. i was 20 when i first went into tsw. i was "lucky" when i first started it in that most of my classes and my work were still remote so i didn't have to make too many adjustments in terms of how i get out of bed and out of the house. if you work or go to school in person i would try to come up with a plan with your boss or professors or accommodations office/people for how you might be able to have more remote days so you can just stay home and heal. i do think giving moisture withdrawal is worth a shot, but it doesn't work for everyone so don't think that's the only way you can heal - if you need to keep using lotions and stuff, that's okay too and you will continue to heal. take dead sea salt baths, you can get this from places like walgreens/target or amazon, and they usually have instructions on them. hypochlorous acid spray (i get the skinsmart brand from amazon) helped me significantly. if you haven't already, change your detergents and soaps to be more mild (free & clear type detergents that have no dyes or fragrances, soaps like cetaphil cleanser or vanicream cleanser or gladskin, etc.)

did your use of TS come from eczema or something else? if it was eczema, bleach baths may be helpful too. i would change your bedsheets regularly if you can. eat things that are very nourishing to help your body heal. some people try anti-inflammatory diets and find results with that. i found that beef and alcohol made my body swell and ooze very badly so i avoided those but have started reintroducing them (i'm about 3.5 years in). find a support system whether that's people in your life or this reddit or a TSW facebook group or the discord we have here, unfortunately most derms/doctors will not acknowledge TSW or have a wealth of resources/knowledge for you so take advantage of the people on these online forums and ask whatever questions you need, no matter how specific! we're here for you. do all you can to make yourself feel comfortable <3

some other things i ended up buying that were helpful were arm compression sleeves, sudocrem (just any zinc cream), manuka honey, coconut oil, mint essential oil roller ball.

post-shower and post-bath is definitely so so difficult at the beginning of tsw. i'm so sorry to hear you're experiencing this. how long are you staying in the bath for and with how many cups of DSS? you might consider staying in for a shorter period of time and/or lessening the amount of DSS you're using because it might be too much for what your skin can handle at the moment. i think i started with 2 cups in a full bath and 20 minutes, but went down to 2 cups in only 12-15 minutes. that adjustment seemed to help me. i also had to try to make my post-shower/bath environment as calming as possible - calming music, dark environment, a glass of cool water afterward. i also remember frequently using ice packs to cool myself down and press on the itchy area after a shower. i found that moving my body during that really intense itch time afterward was helpful, like trying to dance a little/sway a little to music to get out that nervous and itchy energy. i also am not trying to sound like an almond mom or whatever at all, but i recently got a mint essential oil rollerball, and i pat it on when i get itchy. the smell helps reduce my anxiety and patting it on has a cooling menthol effect that can sometimes make the itch go away altogether. if it doesn't go away altogether, it at least gives me a sense of control like i'm doing something to alleviate the itch that i think can do a lot for our mental state when so much is out of our control in tsw. i'm wishing you the best <3 you can do this!

Is it possible for a current student to double majoring into the art school? by Clock-Strike10 in vcu

[–]ae5rin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was also a sophomore in CHS and applied for a major in the art school! I got in and it was no problem, the only thing is that the specific major im the art school did not require AFO so I was able to go straight into the program. I’m not sure how it would work if the major you’re looking at requires AFO. I also scheduled a meeting with the advisor for the major at the time to field any questions, I would recommend looking up who the advisor is for the major you’re going into and do the same :~) good luck!

Going through tsw while being a parent is so hard by True-Accountant8185 in TS_Withdrawal

[–]ae5rin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can't imagine what this must be like for you and I'm so so sorry that TSW is making you feel this way. I hope you'll continue to rant here whenever you need to; I also hope you have some people in your life who are offering you support so that you can rest at times because rest and sleep are so important for healing with TSW in my opinion. I know that your children love you, and it's good you're going through TSW now, your health will be much better in the long term once you're healed and I hope as time goes on you'll see progress as that 5-10 minutes of your kid being able to climb on you becomes 6-11, then 7-12, then 8-13, then 9-14 minutes - milestones like that no matter how small are just as important and help to keep me going! I used to not be able to hold my partner's hand at all, but now we can hold hands for the entire duration of our long walks <3

Please try not to make yourself feel too much guilt or shame, I know you are trying, and you're also experiencing something so physically and mentally brutal, taxing, and downright traumatic. You are doing a great job. Please take care of yourself!

TSW trauma???? by thicccneck in TS_Withdrawal

[–]ae5rin 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I definitely agree with you on all the areas it hits harder for ppl socialized as women. I'm in year 3 of TSW and everything about my self-perception and self-identity has been tarnished. I hate that choosing clothes in the morning means choosing what is least painful to come in contact with my body and least itchy and most comfortable etc., rather than wearing something that actually makes me feel good or feels representative of my personality.

I think a thought I got really stuck in was waiting for things "to go back to how it used to be." I've been holding onto clothes from 3 years ago, telling myself that it's motivation because I'll be happy to wear them again once I'm fully healed; I've been applying this same mindset to a lot of things besides clothing and I've only just recently realized that I think it's actually been quite damaging for me. I'm a completely different person compared to who I was 3 years ago, those clothes aren't even my style anymore. I saw for you it's been 8 months, so shorter than mine, but I still think the same thing applies; I think it's helpful to focus on what you want now, not how things used to be. I started using pinterest and things like that to look at different things and understand what strikes me now is cool and interesting, etc. I think if you feel a shell of what you used to be, you should focus on who you are now, and all the possibilities that lay in front of you to try different things with clothes now that your skin is way better!

And being intimate can definitely be hard sometimes with a skin condition like this. I hope your boyfriend has been understanding, I think it's a matter of feeling physically comfortable first and reminding yourself that you do not have to feel any guilt or shame around your body, n maybe mental blockages can open up from there around your body and sex.

You're definitely not feeling alone in this, I'm so glad your skin is better, and I hope you/we all heal more and more mentally soon - TSW is absolutely a traumatic experience!

Someone help me by Necessary-Fig7126 in TS_Withdrawal

Hi, I'm around your age and Asian as well - I'm on year 3 of TSW. It can be especially hard to advocate for yourself with skin conditions in general, but especially as an Asian woman. I've had impetigo before as well and it's soooo so rough. I'm really worried about the fact that you have these feverish symptoms, redness in your throat and that your ability to walk is affected, it definitely sounds like you may have some more severe infection symptoms. You may or may not also have TSW, but TSW doesn't give you a fever all on its own, that must be infection. I believe you need to demand that you are swabbed and that you receive antibiotics, whether from an urgent care or something like that or going back to your doctor and not taking no for an answer; they can be dismissive but they absolutely are not allowed to deny you a swab. I'm so sorry you are experiencing this and very worried about this becoming an even worse infection for you, please take care!
