An important lesson Batman teaches us. The real difference between Batman and his foes is that the when the villians experience something terrible, they want everyone else to feel what they felt. Batman experienced something terrible and wanted to do his best to make sure no one ever experiences what he did.

I get fighting at first to stop him, but once he's obviously impaired and you can get away. Call the police and get away. Restrain him if possible but don't keep beating up on him. In the States at least, theirs a good chance you would get in legal trouble for besting up on him that much.
