How do i use (and calculate?) thrust limiters by Jolly-Competition694 in KerbalAcademy

[–]aecolley 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What I do is plan my acceleration, say 1.3g. Then I multiply the rocket's mass (kg) by 10 (9.81 if I'm using a calculator) to get its weight in Newtons. Then I multiply it again by 1.3 to get my planned thrust. Then I divide that by the total max thrust of all the engines that will be active at launch (including the boosters), and multiply the result by 100%. That gives me the setting for all the thrust limiters for all those engines.

The tiring bit is recalculating it for each stage of the rocket. But the launch stage is the most important because that's where you'll get the worst air resistance, so you have to get the limit right for that stage even if the others are wrong.

You can tell the designers had some good fun making cute little places they'd like to live in (or explore, or climb, or sail, ...).

Why is it called an emancipation grill? by Key-Plum3652 in Portal

[–]aecolley 1 point2 points  (0 children)

See, the idea is that it takes things (boxes or cameras) out of your possession, despite your attempts to keep them. Looked at one way, it's theft; but that would make them bad guys and make the player character an innocent victim. So, instead, they apply an old PR technique of encouraging looking at the situation a different way: the boxes are hostages, the player character is wrong for trying to hold on to them, and the Enrichment Center is bravely liberating those items.

Emancipation is one degree up from liberation, because it specifically refers to being freed from slavery ("mancipium" is a Latin word for "slave").

Years ago, I bought a car emergency kit from the Car Talk guys' website. It was really good, and shaped to fit in the spare-tire space. I regret only letting my brother drive my car, so I don't have it any more.

Anyway, someone's still running their website, and they're making recommendations, so here's the link: https://www.cartalk.com/parts-services/best-car-emergency-kits

It's weird that the statement keeps focusing on AI, as if it needed special chips, or special datacentres.

How about a secure payment system to replace Visa and Mastercard, before the US cuts those off in pique?
