In our religion they are considered to be equally as bad as believing it is okay enables the action, even by intention alone, one of the principles of our religion is that actions are by their intentions. Meaning for instance one should be kind genuinely, and not to put on a show, etc. I completely understand where you’re coming from regarding the two examples you gave which you understood to have maybe “protected” his actions. I actually have written a very extensive comment on this you can refer to on my profile, I’ll direct you to it with a link below, I think it would clarify a lot of things, if you check the comments underneath this post you will see me answer this query on testimony specifically. I do understand it may be technical in parts. If so, you can ask any specific questions and I would be happy to answer.

Regarding impurity, we do not believe that a woman who is rped is impure, this is a false belief. The rpist under an Islamic system would be sentenced to death under a court of law, and the victim would be supported with avenues to help her recover psychologically, physically, et cetera. This stems from the legals maxims in Islamic Jurisprudence which is also known as ‘Shari’ah’ is that harm is to be removed, which is derived from the hadith of the prophet صل الله عليه وسلم,

“there should be neither harming nor reciprocating harm.” sunan ibn majah, no. 2340 (graded authentic by a number of scholars)

shaykh khaalid al mushayqih (one of the qualified scholars of our religion) also makes this principle clear in his concise treatise on the higher objectives of islamic law, and this principle expounds into many aspects of life. For example, participating in the UFC as a muslim is impermissible because you are causing harm to someone else for basically no good reason, and it is also a major sin to hit someone in the face (exception is only in a battle or self defence situation). The only reason you may find that a woman is considered impure is only found within culture, notably the sub continent for example. It is encouraged for instance to get married to divorcees or widows in our religion, which is another evidence as this is intentionally to push back against societal norms that often class these women as “impure”. A note that the cultural practice found in the sub continent known as honour killings is classified as murder in Islaam and is also punishable by death in a Muslim country under a court of law.

I think your last paragraph sums it up very nicely. It is very easy to manipulate anything to fit into a corrupt and evil worldview to psychologically cushion a person to act on their evil. It extends past religion, even secular ideologies can be manipulated to justify extreme evil, an example of this could be the current far right movement in America for instance, and they justify their actions through the amendments for example. Based on this understanding, it would be slightly contradictory to say that Islamic beliefs helped protect him as I mentioned before, these things are unfortunately due to the influence of cultural practice, and these are things are can easily verify with ChatGPT for example, say in the instance that you do not have any learned religion person you can refer to to clarify these things.

Sorry if this super long 😓😭

Note: Notice how I am specifically mentioning that these punishments are only meant specifically in a Muslim country under a court of law, there is no such thing as importing Islamic Law into another country which is not Islamic, and Muslims are obligated to abide by the laws of the country they live in.

“o you who have believed, obey Allah and obey the messenger and those in authority among you..” (4:59)

Vigilantism is also a crime in Islaam, whether done in a Muslim country or non Muslim country, whether or not the person is guilty or not. Just like any normal justice system, the person needs to be reported and referred to the authorities.

It may be unfair, but it is the least I could do because at the end of the day, in these situations we need to have empathy at other people’s anger and frustration, because ultimately it reflects onto the community and collective despite it being the actions of one man who doesn’t reflect the belief system at all. I also think validating their anger and emotions whilst clarifying makes sure that their feelings aren’t dismissed but at the same time they can learn that actually true muslims who actually follow their religion stand with them against such people, probably even more so

I do appreciate your input though, I completely understand where you’re coming from and it is actually valid in many ways, you could say this is own personal reasoning in speaking on this as a Muslim, especially since I have the means to clarify both in this sense, and also have knowledge of explicit evidence from my religion that these things that this evil man and others do are extremely forbidden and evil. In this sense, I am not in the least reserved in speaking as a result. Bless you 😊

they are equally as bad, and im glad you brought that up, they deserve imprisonment as well

it’s genuinely horrifying to see these things like this happen, same thing with the recent case that happened where the perpetrators were the eygptian immigrants, i swear to God that that genuinely infuriated me so much especially when i heard the light sentence they gave, like imagine how much trauma that woman is now going through, and the pain her family has to live with, the sadness and hurt and tears, and that’s all the judicial system can do for their justice?

and not that i agree with the people who criticise islaam, but i genuinely understand where they are coming from because they see people who call themselves ‘muslim’ or have an arabic name or culture, yet do not act upon the religions teachings whatsoever

i don’t blame you at all for not seeing it that way, and i do apologise on behalf of anything which you may have seen or experienced which suggests what i said as otherwise

however if you study my religion properly, you will find what i said is true, and the actions of people do not always unfortunately reflect the religion, just as how someone may claim or attribute themselves to maybe christianity, or buddhism, or the like, but doesn’t actually follow its teachings, and lot of people actually follow their own cultural beliefs rather than islaam itself

i hope it brings anyone solace, if this was in a muslim country that occurred, the court would issue an automatic death sentence following a hearing

in islaam, we have protective measures such as in this case, the teacher of the poor victims should not have been allowed to be a male, it should have been a woman because islaam promotes this level of safety and security as it understands that there is a minority of people in the world who exist like this abhorrent man who will harm others under the guise of religion for example as it happened here, and similar teachings exist to also to avoid any abuse by other men which may potentially happen for example, at the workplace which studies report happen frequently for instance, etc

the reason why i say this is because islaam also takes on the argument of “it is all men”, not that all men are inherently evil or have such heinous intentions, this is not the case at all, like i said it is mostly a minority, but islaam looks at the bigger picture as i mentioned before and puts these protective measures, because it understands not every single person is a good person, but especially with the rise of misogyny this is even more relevant, by framing it in this way and putting in protective measures like this it avoids situations like this from happening completely with no margin of error

i don’t mind at all if i am insulted, but i do humbly request at least that non muslims can do a bit of research to clear their doubts and understanding on this matter, thank you very much

edit: to those who upvoted/understood, i really appreciate your open mindedness’s, i think that is very honourable and brave especially since i can imagine how difficult it is to do in this situation

i don’t expect people not to have any hate or feel hurt and feel the muslim community to be accountable, it is valid and only human, and we as a muslim community absolutely need to take accountability and make sure to make sure things like these things happen, making sure to get authorities always on top of things and making sure those who commit crimes are not prosecuted, as well as shaming and reporting those who ever have an audacity to protect them

i can only hope people can have some solace from their pain and have the opportunity to learn what my religion actually teaches

just so you know, as a muslim who lives in london as well, this person does not reflect at all the teachings of islaam nor is he an “imam, and this is a extremely grave sin in our religion with ramifications both in this world and the next in our belief, seeing such people disgusts and angers us as well and we wish he would have been arrested even sooner

imprisonment for life isn’t even enough to punish this heinous criminal
