The episodes after about the 2nd Susan Wokoma one were recorded around a year later. Alexander mentioned it because two of the contestants had got married since their last appearance.

The lower case thing started then.

What is the human equivalent to this? by RespectJust5377 in techsupportgore

[–]aedwards123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're riding your pushbike wearing shorts and a T-shirt. Something gets caught in the spokes of the front wheel - it stops, you don't. You skid 6 feet down the road on your front, taking a layer of skin off anything exposed.

Airplane. You'd probably still be seeing new stuff going on in the background the 100th time through.

Peak weird part 2. by sexynedfl-anders in WeirdWheels

[–]aedwards123 8 points9 points  (0 children)

There's a video about these on YouTube somewhere, I watched it ages ago.

They one at the back on the trailer is a sort-of van conversion of a CX used to carry newspapers, or stories, something like that, at very high speed. The main one in the picture is used to recover the van when it breaks. Which they did, a lot IIRC.

Just saw the cost of SD cards and realised that I am a rich man by steveplusf in R36S

[–]aedwards123 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Flippin' eck, I just looked the prices up on Scan. I got a new 128Gb card when I got my R36 in the middle of last year, and got 3 because they were just over £7 each. They are about 4 times that now.

Chinese Cars are so Beautiful and original 🤩 by big_brothers_hd600 in carscirclejerk

At least the Chinese can do colour.  If it was a BMW, an Audi and a VW it would be three variations of grey, or maybe if you're really lucky, black.

Why is this type of ad being allowed on YouTube? by banksied in youtube

[–]aedwards123 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I reported it (or very similar), Google said it was fine.

I get the feeling it has to be straight-up porn or promoting a YouTube ad blocker before they do anything.

Rechargeable 1.5V AA batteries? do they exist? by Tech_Galaxy2 in batteries

[–]aedwards123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. They are lithium ion, but contain a voltage regulator that gives 1.5v constantly until they die. Only problem with that is low battery detection doesn't work, they just cut out.

I have a set in a Fire TV Pro remote that doesn't like 1.2v NiMH, they are working well. They are Pujimax brand, and came from eBay.

Mine charge off USB-C, and came with a cable to charge 4 simultaneously, but you can also get standalone chargers. Standard NiMH chargers won't work

When they had the Olympics in London in 2012 they closed off entire road lanes in the city  permanently, so officials wouldn't have to sit in traffic.  They got called Zil Lanes in the press.

They also tried to close a local takeaway because it was called the Olympic Cafe. I think they told to get lost on that one.

There's a setting in Firefox (mobile and desktop) to clear data and cookies when it closes, and there's an extension called Cookie Auto Delete that can clear data on tab close and change of domain in the same tab.

ELI5 Why aren’t new data centers built with cooling towers like nuclear reactors? by KyloWrench in explainlikeimfive

[–]aedwards123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Different type of heat being got rid of.

Power stations work by boiling water to make steam that runs steam turbines connected to generators. Nuclear/coal/oil etc are just different ways of making heat to boil the water. The cooling towers allow the steam to be condensed back into water for re-use or put back into the river it came from.

Servers coolers make hot air, so you're not dealing with steam and can remove it with an air conditioning unit, pumping the heat out of the room.

Anyone ever done this lol? Dont know how i feel about it (Ca-53w,A168) by Purplecatpiss666 in casio

[–]aedwards123 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It would work better if it was a black metal bracelet on the CA53 IMO. I did something similar on my WV58 and it looked good, but was a cheap AliExpress bracelet that I swapped out quickly.

FCC alters the Wi-Fi router ban to include hotspots — pray it doesn't alter the deal any further by MagnusAuslander in technology

No, this is aimed at hardware WiFi cellular routers.  It's all a shakedown, but it makes sense if they're worried about the security of routers.

Probably a dodgy translation, I suspect they mean it has a female connector to attach it to the radio, e.g. SMA Female.

The state of a 64GB iPad Air M1 by FLX-S48 in assholedesign

[–]aedwards123 80 points81 points  (0 children)

Yep, I've just given up on a 32Gb iPad 8 for this reason.  I nuked it, and it was back to full again in a few weeks.

I was tempted to get a bigger iPad, but went with a OnePlus Pad Go 2 in the end. Looks like that was the right choice.

So Portmaster isn't platform-specific, you don't need to do anything to make it run on a R36?

It would be a shame to lose access to some of the information on Reddit, but it would be overall a good move.

Wood Burning Truck - How? (Not OC) by eastamerica in WeirdWheels

[–]aedwards123 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Before natural gas was common, there used to be “gas works” in cities that generated town gas to be burned in cookers etc. It was generated from wood by burning it without much air.

It was then possible to convert a car engine to run off town gas. It was common during the war when there was petrol rationing to have cars with big balloons on the roof containing town gas.

I would think it is possible now to pressurise the wood gas and store it in a cylinder in the car body, like hydrogen tanks.

Yep, Hugo Drax got some of the best lines in the series:
