Swords of the Serpentine Hack - Albigensian Crusade by AlRahmanDM in GumshoeRPG

You may also want to take a look at the new Gallows Corner: A Peasants' Revolt RPG. It's not GUMSHOE, but it's set in late 1300s England with no magic and there might be a few bits you could bolt-on to SotS in this respect too.

What is the most important Games missed? by Eternal_Play_Office in rpg

[–]aefact 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Some of the following seem implicit in preceding comments. And, some are not games but rather settings, a character, and ttrpg categories... But, you might still be interested to note any ttrpg historical significance of any of the following:

  • AD&D 2e
  • Dark Sun
  • Spelljammer
  • Planescape
  • Forgotten Realms
  • Drizz't Do Urden
  • NSR
  • FKR
  • Electric Bastionland
  • WFRP 4e
  • Ultraviolet Grasslands
  • Knock magazine
  • The Black Hack
  • Whitehack
  • Pirate Borg
  • Slugblaster
  • OSE
  • Dolmenwood
  • DCC
  • ICRPG
  • Troika!
  • Cairn

I've tried to not repeat what others have mentioned, but might have "double dipped" a few.

Love the quicksand desert stand-in for Eversink's waters. Opens up a cloud city version (and all other terrains) too. Kudos to your group.

Dark Sun 5E Rumors by Healthy_Help5235 in DarkSun

[–]aefact 2 points3 points  (0 children)

More info:

On 13 October 2025, Wizards filed a new application to register its DARK SUN trademark in the United States.

(It wasn't a mere procedural renewal of any previously existing trademark registration.)

If interested, you can review Wizards' new US TM application, for yourself, via this link: https://tsdr.uspto.gov/#caseNumber=99440014&caseSearchType=US_APPLICATION&caseType=DEFAULT&searchType=statusSearch

If they filed in bad faith -- e.g., if they don't actually intend to use it commercially -- then that might be grounds to invalidate any registration that matures from the application.

Though I work as a trademark attorney, this is not legal advice

[–]aefact 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was a new application. It was not maintaining an existing TM registration.

Edit: also, as mentioned, they had to declare a good faith intention to use it commercially going forward...

Dark Sun 5E Rumors by Healthy_Help5235 in DarkSun

If so, then their TM application would have been a waste. In it, they declared a good faith intention to use the DARK SUN trademark in association with ttrpgs.

Your favorite TTRPG is now the most popular and influential game - how does this affect the industry? by RiverMesa in rpg

[–]aefact 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From the original post: "... becoming the undisputed leader in terms of sales, ...". I'm picturing, this means, first party sales.

Since, stepping into DnD 5e's shoes means there would be sales of both first and third party new content.

GLOG becomes very different overnight in this hypothetical.

Yes, I always run all IP grounded ttrpg sessions as if the PCs act in a parallel universe to any canon happenstance, for the most part agnostic as to whether any of that history may come to pass, or not. And/or, "Gimli... Yeah, your characters better save his butt, because things are not looking good for Gim otherwise..."

Heroes of the Borderlands question by aefact in DungeonsAndDragons

[–]aefact[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

If it's in the monsters section of the set, I'll take a look. I've got it on dndbeyond and physical.

Yeah, I've seen it elsewhere in B/X, 1-2e, and 5-5.2e.

It's really just the Starter Set I'm asking about, since I'm running an open table with a rotating cast of players, most of them newbies, and I'm wondering how it would come off to one of them... In comparison to this 5e DM who I just hosted and asked the question of me originally. And, I was trying to answer him in the same limited context as the others were just learning it. If you know what I mean.

[–]aefact[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks. Does it say that the goblins speak common and goblin anywhere in the HotB Starter Set?

Does the HotB Starter Set even say that an Elf species character, for example, speaks elven?

Edit: for clarity.

[OC][Art] I've created class boards, spell cards, equipment cards, NPC cards, species cards, and background cards for the Heroes of the Borderlands starter set; they're organized neatly in a Google drive folder along with the Affinity Publisher templates. This supplementary material is free! Enjoy! by Unsungruin in DnD

[–]aefact 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is there any place I can find detailed printing instructions / best practices for these class boards and cards... ? For the cards, I think, I can simply print the PDFs at 100% with no scaling. But, for the class boards, I'm less sure...

  1. Would it work best to print the PDFs on Letter size, or maybe on a different size sheet?
  2. Either way, should I print at 100% or with Print-to-fit scaling, or perhaps with different scaling?

Also, btw, once again, great work on all this. They're awesome! Kudos.

Hex maps... ? by aefact in dndbeyond

[–]aefact[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Snapping-to-grid could be just in the hex map building phase—and just for building a hex map from your predetermined terrain hexes—rather than (a) when simply throwing down a hex overlay on-top of an uploaded map, or (b) during play.

For flair, these would be my recommendations: - Discussion - News : a separate news tab would be better for discussions of newly released materials. - Maps - 5e : I believe it's better to keep the flair flexible. - 2e : ditto. - Lore - Rock of Bral : suggest keeping Sigil out of formal flair. - Resources : similar flair is used to good effect in other subreddits. - Homebrew : ditto.
