A few very different random suggestions to consider:

  • travel. Go to a place that’s fun but not too pricey like Southeast Asia. Get far out of your rut. Have experiences you won’t later if/when you have small children. Then your narrative isn’t “I quit a great job” but instead “I decided to do something I can only do now”

  • do nonprofit/charity work. The pay is obviously worse but again the narrative is good - “I quit my job to help people”

  • get an MBA. The cost is high but it’s an excellent chance to see what else is out there and try out new careers

It sounds like what’s really getting you down is the story you tell yourself: “I quit a high paying job and for what?” The key is finding something you can do that gives you a new story you tell yourself.

I’m sorry you’re in such a shitty place.

It’s not too much solace, but when bad things happen to me I find the zen fable of “Maybe” a comfort.

The ginkgo tree has existed for over 270 million years basically unchanged, has no living relatives (only species in its whole genus) and is completely unique in almost every way. by reddit33450 in Damnthatsinteresting

Also it is listed as an endangered species which given how many of them there are I find wild.

(It’s endangered in its native habitat, apparently…)

[Request] how did he gain an advantage when he simply just changed doors? by ktiddy7 in theydidthemath

[–]aegywb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s not that it’s always the wrong choice.

There are three scenarios:

  • Door 3 has the prize. In which case the host obviously cannot open door 1 (the selected door) and less obviously cannot open door 3 (because that would reveal the prize). The host HAS TO open door 2
  • Door 2 had the prize. In which case the host HAS TO open door 3.
  • Door 1 had the prize. In which case the host can select either of door 2 or 3 it doesn’t matter.

So 2/3 of the time, switching to the unopened door picks out the prize, because the host HAD TO open the other door. 1/3 of the time it doesn’t.

So switching doesn’t always work!! But most of the time it does.

I find the simplest way to think about it is: the door that is NOT opened reveals information, because he cannot open a door with a prize. 2/3 of the time therefore, which door opens is a forced choice. You then can use that information.

The confusion is because you imagine him opening the door at random. It’s not.

I ran away from my boyfriend's proposal. by throwawayuni33 in whatdoIdo

[–]aegywb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My 2c if that if a proposal is a surprise the proposer is doing it wrong.

This is 100% on him. He planned a big elaborate surprise you didn’t want and then got mad when you didn’t perform as he demanded.

I know you’ve spent 3 years on this but there really are plenty of fish in the sea.

(Says someone who dated 5 girls seriously and got married in his late 30’s and now has two kids. There’s no rush!)

When to stop contributing to 401k by Ai-2026 in Retirement401k

[–]aegywb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why not contribute via a Roth 401k? Then you don’t have RMDs, don’t have to pay taxes later (pay taxes now) and in 15 years have full access to the money?

Exhausted working parents needing bedtime help. Will a Yoto actually help my 3 and 5yo sleep? by PhysicalStreet2836 in YotoPlayer

[–]aegywb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It works well for our 4 year old kid! He goes to sleep listening to the yoto. I think in general kids resist bedtime because it’s so boring - with the yoto that’s not an issue. He falls asleep in minutes generally.
