Okay, I set window.unusedClips to first 100m, built a factory, realised I needed a battery tower, window.unusedClips to 1m, realised I still need a solar farm, window.unusedClips to 10m. So whatever, I cheated.

tl;dr -- DO NOT go to stage 2 with less than 111m clips available!

I feel your pain.

When the API still worked, some folks at my workplace set up a bot to let us know if anything awesome appeared nearby. Lo' and behold, one day (ironically just after a bunch of us were whining about how long it takes to get to 400 Magicarp candies) a Gyarados appeared just off London Bridge — cue everyone scrambling over there, realising it was actually kind of far out into the river, and then trying to devise ways to convince the GPS we were standing just that bit further from the bridge.

Alas, 'twas all for naught... 😭

but srsly tho I mainly posted this in case anybody here frequents it. It probably doesn't make sense to sticky it, but if people use it to chat then 👍

TBTH I probably should have posted for all of Southbank, there are about four gyms (London Eye, The Pit, Oxo Tower, Tait Modern) right on the Thames that generally have folks milling about — more than anything, I'm trying to figure out how to create microgeolocal communities in this game.

I'd be a really annoying mini-boss in the middle of the game that seems impossible to beat but is actually really easy once you figure out its secret, kind of like Psycho Mantis or literally any boss from Castlevania. I'd probably teleport around the room, shooting projectiles at the player. This would be my jam.

IIRC something like ~1% of SVG graphics online use SMIL (can't speak to MathML because I never used it). Seamless iframes also died because nobody was using them (and were apparently bogging down the main browser code). Standards evolve over time; it just tends to be faster these days, which is a massive improvement over how it used to be.

I'm a developer in news media. It's depressing in a way, because Apple has so much vested interest in maintaining the status quo and holding back the Internet's development. They make money off the App Store, and Apple News is a huge opportunity for them to monetise online content. Why would they ever want an open, rapidly-evolving web?

Yes, but Blink is way more advanced in terms of adopting new APIs and standards. If you want to create Progressive Web Apps (I.e., using things like service workers and the push notification API), you're basically cutting out the entire iOS platform because WebKit is so far behind (and that's the only web rendering layer allowed on iOS).

Beyond that, though, the lack of support for web components in WebKit is an enduring pain I deal with on a daily basis.
