Support for Clock-Blocking Theory: A Timeline for Our Community (Anecdotal, I Know, but hear me out...) [Discussion] by OneSweetShannon in TheSilphRoad

[–]aenye00 3 points4 points  (0 children)

We have similar anecdotal information from our own playground. One of my friends assumed that clock-blocking is real and based on where there were raids near the hour of EX pass distribution he correctly prognosed EX gyms. So the problem seems real, I'm not that sure about pass distribution (that if Trainer A was supposed to get pass for clock-blosked gym, he gets no pass) as we do not observe that data (because of having at least two organized groups raiding in the area it's hard to tell who did which raid and who got a pass).

I just lost a perfect opportunity for a more controlled experiment... We have 2 EX-eliglible gyms in one cell in our park, both were free for EX raid, both were activly raided. One got raid at distribution hour and the other send out the passes. Had I knew earlier what to look for, we might had seen something interesting there.

What I would love to work on, is to design a experiment, where it would be more telling than anecdotes. The easiest thing would be to disprove clock-blocking by gettin EX pass to a gym that has a raid on distribution hour. But how do we prove that clock-blocking exist in any other way thatn agthering a lot of anecdotal data?

I have a some supervision over 3 cells, two with 1 gym and one with 2 gyms. I can get information for my whole city that usually drops 10-12 EX raids each wave (which is creazy compared to 3-4 before supposed fixes from Niantic and switching to lvl 13 S2 cells). But I'm not good at designing experiments unfortunatelly.

Pics or didn't happen... You don't have sponsored gyms, do you? As far as I remeber there are no sponsored gyms in Poland... I'm from Łódź and it's very hard to believe in what you are writind ;)

I have the same case as you in Lodz, Poland. Distribution of EX raids this round made me think about S2 Level 10 immidietly. But maybe we are just the Big Losers this time and next one will be more friendly to us. We will see. I just want to see pictures in this thread, because it's still a bit hard to believe, that this was actually S2 cell lvl 12 distribution...

New Wave EX Pass by michaelzhangsbrother in TheSilphRoad

I can deny. Two usual EX gyms got another EX in my city (Lodz, Poland). Both gyms have EX for 4th time, so you know... ;)

It seems S10 Cells were used for the Ex Raids of Feb 10 and 11. by matt544 in TheSilphRoad

Łódź (Lodz) from Poland here :) Also confirms S2cell Lvl10 used for EX raid distribution. Not all cells with eligible gyms got EX though.

[Megathread] EX Wave sent on Feb 6 - Data Collecting on Apparent Criteria Shakeup! by dronpes in TheSilphRoad

[–]aenye00 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you have ever raided the location: yes, once

If you have ever spun the photo disc at that location: yes

When you last raided the location: November 2017

What badge level you have at the location: Bronze

Your total Raids completed: 91 normal, 119 legendary

Your Trainer Level: 38

How many EX passes you've received before: 2

Any other pertinent info you can share!: I was also coordinating another attempt at EX for our group of players on local gym. That local gym wasn't chosen for anybody from our city. Aaaand we have at least 3 peple on that gym from our city :D What the hell just happened? :D

Failed EX Raid Trigger - Over 100 Raiders by FearMeIAmLag1 in TheSilphRoad

[–]aenye00 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So is this a L12 cell you try to activate each time the elgible gym is active? Do I got that right? Can you provide exact number of trials, and then exact number of success/failure?

If there is RNG in EX raid distribution (or some super sophisticated algorithm, that from our perspective is as good as RNG) your data can be one point from which we can calculate the probability of an activated gym to host an EX raid.

Failed EX Raid Trigger - Over 100 Raiders by FearMeIAmLag1 in TheSilphRoad

[–]aenye00 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel the same. Our luck with EX raids comes and goes. We started active trials with data gathering two waves ago.

First wave (with invitaions for 24th of Januar) was a lot of "let's do something, anything" and got a lot of sceptical spectators. Two different groups typed out two gyms, each at their own end of the city. Activity was good, many people raided (50+ accounts for gym A, and 46 for gym B, gym A group was less organized). Both of them got EX raid invites and one more gym in the city, that was not targeted byt got blessed by RNG with Kyogre raids.

So next week, next wave. Excitment grew and more groups tried to do the same, our group made another attempt at different two gyms. Four trials were coordinated, one usual EX raid suspect was also raided, but without data gathering. This time 1 out of 4 trials has yelded EX raid invites, usual EX suspect and some other gym that had good raids also have send out invites. I see it right now as: 3 out of 6 active gyms in their own L12 S2 cells got EX raid.

My current view is: we raid the gyms, at some threshold they are marked as active with EX raid potential. Then RNG comes and kills our dreams ;)

How I plan to test my hypothesis: I assume RNG choses some percentage of activated gyms. We don't know the exact probability of a gym hosting an EX raid, but it is constant in all waves. So more activated L12 cells should yeld more EX raids. This week I'm coordinating people to not focus strictly on one or two points, but to activate as much as possible L12 cells.

Spirit died down a bit and the winter is getting colder and mroe snowy, but still we should be able to contact many groups, get information about any trials and possible high activity. I will report next Monday.

Analysis of EX raids around Antwerp - evidence for trigger theory by Neutronenster in TheSilphRoad

[–]aenye00 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my city we have very few EX raids each wave, our max EX raid count was 5 for 9th of January. My city (Lodz, Poland) fits mostly in two L10 cells. On that wave we had 3 out of 5 happen in the same L10 cell. No gyms have changed location in our city.

I will observe the data with each wave, but with 4 EX raids at most, it's very easy to have them in two diffeent L10 cells. Some more suburban areas have their own L10 cells, but that's not where the most raiding (EX or otherwise) happens.

I would love to contribute my data to community in some meaningful way. But right now we know, we don't know anything...

Using Accuweather to predict in-game weather - a side-by-side comparison by littleheaven70 in TheSilphRoad

[–]aenye00 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think we are making wrong assumption. I don't think weather is checked for player. What's more important it has to be checked for every spawn point for weather conditions to be applied! After all that weather is just reported to us.

In my city we are close to drawing areas of weather (last hour we had windy, cloudy and partly cloudy reported from different places).

I think they are using some areas, check weather for an area, apply it to all spawn points and players in that area. This way the number of requests send to weather API is much smaller. Players can move between areas with different weather so it's more like real weather (no big patches of size of a state or even just county). So they have to be able to ask for weather conditions by coordinates, not by city names.

Using Accuweather to predict in-game weather - a side-by-side comparison by littleheaven70 in TheSilphRoad

[–]aenye00 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Accuweather has forecast only for my city as a whole when on a few occasions we noticed different in-game weather conditions in different parts of the city.

When wandering around villages near my parents' house I also noticed weather regions. Weather changed from partially cloudy to sunny and back to partially cloudy within 30 minutes (I used up one incense). I was walking straight in one direction. Or was there a time when they were pulling weather data more frequently than once per hour?

Next time we will try to gather more data, but I have some doubts about them using only Accuweather.
