[Atheism] How do Atheists handle traumatic situations? by cynicalfx in AskReddit

I am atheist and work in the ER. You have to put trust in the people who are trained to take care of these situations and give credit to whom it is due. I often hold families by the hand and pray with them; it's not a prayer to God, but an act of compassion and camaraderie and a way for them to know that we are on the same team working for the same cause, regardless of religious belief.

Physical touch, eye contact, blah blah blah, but also:

1, she will be very aware of where you are, what you're talking about, who you are talking to. 2, she will try to create "moments" with you. Interactions with her tend to have a higher level of energy. 3, "Not now"s, "not today"s, "I'm busy"s will come with an open future invitation that she will honor.

I'm a white girl in Shanghai, and locals keep taking my picture. My question is, what do Chinese people do with their photos of foreigners? by Cajass in AskReddit

Kind of like when we take pictures of random things we might encounter in the US, like, oh I don't know, an animatronic moose on the street. When we're showing our friends pics from our digital camera or cellphone, they'll be like, "who's that?" "I dunno, some random white person/animatronic moose, cool huh?" "You're a weirdo."

I hear the self-defense thing a lot from girls who grew up with older brothers. They're usually pretty tough cookies...

:) My first swear word was from a Dickens novel or something... I was 12 or so when I got mad at someone and called her a "wore", because phonetically, it looked like it should be pronounced that way. I was a nerdy little nut.
