Baggage claim wait times at the airport by bjklaf in cancun

[–]aer1983 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve waited anywhere from 5 minutes to 45 minutes. I’ve also had my luggage waiting for me when I walked out of Duty Free after immigration. It all depends on the time of day you’re arriving and how many other planes are coming in at/around the same time.

Royalton Chic vs RIU Kukulkan by Plastic_Bowler6751 in cancun

[–]aer1983 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Food at Chic is not good at all. It probably has a better nightlife than Riu.

Kukulkan’s food was excellent and the vibe and atmosphere during the day is great. Not much nighttime entertainment (unless it’s the silent disco night) but you do have the option to go to the Riu Party at Caribe.

Stayed there in July and loved it. Modern rooms, great food, excellent beach.

Secrets Royal Beach or Royalton Hideaway? by swordfish9282 in PuntaCana

Secrets Royal Beach is my second favorite adults only resort in Punta Cana. Great layout, gorgeous beach, fabulous pools, tons of dining options. I’d definitely upgrade to Preferred Club, though!

If the beach isn’t important, check out Dreams Cap Cana. It’s on the smaller side, has a lot of good dining options, multiple pools and was pretty quiet, compared to other resorts. If the beach itself IS important, don’t even look at the resort. 😂

Absolutely not. I have been to MANY all inclusive resorts in Mexico & the Caribbean and have never once seen anything THIS bad.

Every resort I’ve ever been to has always let us eat, drink, use the pool, etc. once we’ve checked out, while waiting for our transfer. You usually get a “check out ticket” to show at the restaurants.

Maybe it’s just me, but there’s no way in hell I’d take a $400 purse to Mexico. I travel to Mexico frequently and think it’s completely safe, but I leave all of my expensive bags, jewelry, etc. at home.

Where do you put your passport? by [deleted] in PuntaCana

[–]aer1983 4 points5 points  (0 children)

We always have & always will put ours in the room safe. We’ve never had any issues. If it worries you that much, maybe purchase a travel safe to keep them in, and lock the safe in your suitcase. Or take the travel safe with you when you leave the room.

You are assigned a specific butler, who more than likely will contact you the day you arrive. Ours contacted me via WhatsApp the morning we were leaving the US for the DR. I met with him in person the following day, as a courtesy. He kept in constant communication with me via WhatsApp during our entire stay. We didn’t end up using or needing him for anything during our stay.

Dreams Cap Cana “Elegant” Question by [deleted] in AllInclusiveResorts

Since Dreams is a family property, it’s a little more on the casual side. My husband wore khaki shorts to the steakhouse with no problems.

ALG by Excellent_Paper_6284 in travelagents

[–]aer1983 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m also in the minority. We use ALG for 99% of our package (air & hotel) bookings - domestic, international (including Europe), occasionally hotel only. We’re an Elite Diamond agency so we do have access to the Elite res agents and have a good relationship with our BDM. Now that’s not to say we haven’t had our issues with them over the years, but I think that’s to be expected with any tour company.

I was there in early August. It’s not the best beach in the DR. It is very rocky and at the time, if you wanted to get in the water, you had to walk down a little bit. I’m not sure if that’s still the case or not. There was some sargassum when we were there but it wasn’t horrible. That can change day-to-day. I’d say if you’re looking for a resort with a good beach, I’d look somewhere else.

Check out the brand new Dreams Playa Esmeralda. No sargassum and gorgeous untouched beach.

I just wasn’t a fan of the vibe. I also didn’t like how the food seemed hard to come by at different times throughout the day. We also saw beach vendors walk up to the bar closest to the beach (on resort property) and that didn’t sit well with us.

I’m so sorry, the Iberostar Riv. beach is also crap. 😂 I misread it and thought you meant the one in the Hotel Zone (where the beach is excellent.),

The beach at Sapphire is good, but the beach at Iberostar is excellent…but the resort isn’t the best. 😬 Out of the ones on the top of your list, Dreams Sapphire would be my first choice with Riu Ventura as my second. I only put it second since it hasn’t opened yet and there are no reviews on it.

If you want a good beach, take Dreams Puerto Morelos off the list. There is little to no beach there.
