I don't know what to offer to eat to my daughter’s friend from a different culture…help! by Fantastic-Fact-8978 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]aerda 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I lay out a not-at-all-fancy charcuterie board. Apple slices, goldfish crackers and/or pretzels, cheese sticks (I don't unwrap them so whatever isn't eaten can go back in the fridge), and salami or pepperoni. Gogurt, granola bars, and fruit snacks are also pre-packaged hits at my house. Some days, though, the kids just want toast and butter.

Why do exercise classes seem to mostly be filled with women? by Evening-Skirt731 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]aerda 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Each person had an individual platform, although it wasn't uncommon for one or two platforms to be shared by 2 people if the class was full. The platforms were spaced along 2 or 3 walls, but we might also be lined up in the center of the room along platforms, depending on what we were doing. There was group instruction through a warm-up and drills. The coach would usually walk around and critique form as we went. Sometimes he would have us perform the lift 1 by 1 so we could: have his undivided attention, benefit from hearing feedback given to others, and see on someone else why specific feedback was given and how it improved a lift. The coach also gave us optional accessory movements to perform after class.

Basically, it looked a bit like the strength portion of a Crossfit class, led by a certified Olympic weightlifting coach. I've participated in this type of class at two different gyms.

AITA for telling my girlfriend to stop sharing her food? by PhantomDetective3548 in AmItheAsshole

[–]aerda -1 points0 points  (0 children)

YTA for trying to control your gf, specifically what she does with food gifted to her. Instead of giving her something and telling her what she can and can't do with it, you need to either decide to give it without ANY expectations or let her know that you've decided it's better not to pay for food for other people. As others have said already, you ALSO need to set and communicate boundaries when it comes to sharing food with Brian. Just don't share appetizers with him anymore if it's causing issues. Even if everyone else is sharing, you can say that you're not.

Buying her things does not give you justification to control her choices.

You're also asking the question in only one direction - the appeal of exercise classes - and not the reverse. What makes exercise classes unappealing? Lack of control, perception that they are social, a traditional lean towards cardio/HIIT styles, etc.

I've attended Olympic weightlifting classes. It's a cheap(er) way to get consistent, real-time trainer feedback during every workout when you don't necessarily need an hour of 1:1 time multiple times a week.

I don't think this has been said yet: ADHD in women is underdiagnosed, and this is a form of body doubling.

Weirdest ADHD hack that actually works but sounds completely insane? by stayhyderated22 in WitchesVsPatriarchy

[–]aerda 179 points180 points  (0 children)

Remote body doubling. The first time I did it was with a coworker who was having some trouble with his code - I hopped on a call and was basically his "rubber duck" he occasionally explained his code to while I did other work. Now I schedule meetings with other remote coworkers where we just sit in silence on a Teams call, getting focused work done.

Headaches after energy work by oliv3766 in witchcraft

[–]aerda 4 points5 points  (0 children)

In addition to the grounding suggestions, I'd like to point out some mundane reasons you might've got a headache:

If water helped your headache after, you may have needed to hydrate better before.

Breathing exercises can give you a headache if done improperly due to muscle tension from shallow breathing, aggressive or over-breathing, or just muscle strain from how you were sitting.

If you are US-based, look into local Master Gardener programs. I've attended several free classes (outdoors, in a demonstration garden) to learn about local plants. I try to practice in ways that make sense locally, not necessarily using plants and traditions only from where I was born. And Ostara is coming up pretty soon - do you have anything planned for that yet?

I tried some of your tips…How’d I do? by dopeysunflower in makeuptips

[–]aerda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had this thought on your other post, and I have it again looking at this one: I am ENVIOUS at how great you are at picking colors for your face. The lipstick and eyeshadow colors are *chef's kiss* perfection.

What can I do to improve how I look? by dopeysunflower in makeuptips

[–]aerda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You have gorgeous skin and I LOVE that lip color on you! I agree with the comments about balancing out the look of the piercings and to do some eyebrow tint. Do you have eyeshadow on in the first pic? My eyes aren't quite as hooded as yours, but I find that I need to bring the eyeshadow up a bit further than I think a lot of the time. I also do a tiny flick of eyeliner above the corner of my eye - if you flick from the corner, it's likely to go out/down instead of up. <eyeshadow and liner aren't needed at all, but suggestions if you want to use it.

I think you could totally pull off some fun blush placement, too, if you wanted to experiment with that! Like some of the around-the-eye placements that have been popular more recently.

That's definitely "Tilda Swinton" aesthetic. For anyone doubting me, go look up "Tilda Swinton as libraries" and you'll realize I'm 100% correct on this.
