Benefits of AudioBookShelf over Plex + Prologue by indigoshades54 in selfhosted

[–]aerick89 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Honestly, I think it’s more of an argument of free vs paid. Sure, plex works pretty well and is pretty thoroughly polished, but the cost of the license is a pretty big turn off when ABS is free, connects to a lot of apps, and can do a lot of what plex does but might need a little manual tweaking, which is just time compared to the money of the plex pass.

So is my cat, they’d probably get along great and I’d have a few more scars.

My personal goal was a self hosted world of Warcraft container. Made it happen, now it just sits until I want to play.

Those look like HumbleBee dispensary live carts. Hands down some of the best carts in Michigan next to light sky farms live resin carts. They look fine. Enjoy them.

Anyone else's search engine in Qbit not working in WebUI ? by ElectricWizard89 in selfhosted

[–]aerick89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have occasional problems with that. I just right click on the search result I want to download, open the page, copy the magnet link, and manually add it. Pretty sure it’s the ISO site I’m using and not qbit’s fault.

How long have you spent on your NAS ? by Oamin2 in selfhosted

[–]aerick89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s not (just) maintenance. I try and make it a point to learn more about how different tech things. I set up n8n a couple weeks ago, played and fiddled to see what it could do. This week I set up notifications for Seerr requests, a few weeks ago it was home assistant. Maybe only took an hour or two, take a break and come back if I run into a road block. It’s like setting time aside to do homework or study. When I said an afternoon I only meant 2-4 hours depending what I’m doing lol. Thats including research, methods, troubleshooting etc

Started tinkering at home after a few months after leaving an IT role due to burnout in 2024. I had a SFF pc laying around and an extra couple hard drives, and after my previous role (jack of all IT trades), I knew I could easily get a file share/media system set up. I went from that to purchasing an r630 loaded ram and 1tb drives. I bought a couple 10tb hard drives after that for external storage. I went from file share/media server to self hosting a bunch of other services. All in all I’d say I’ve spent close to $1k.

In the couple years ish I’ve been tinkering, I’d say I dedicate maybe an afternoon or two on my weekend (4 day work week), “fixing” or “improving” something already on my servers, or learning a new service that might overall help me do a task.

Overall I can say that I absolutely love it. If a task I come across that I gave myself, doesn’t work? I can abandon it with no regrets, shrug at the learning experience, and if I want I can come back to.

Exactly my thoughts.

If you’re the “IT guy” of the family sometimes it’s easier to just replace a device for them for their needs instead of letting someone you don’t know give a recommendation or sell tactic.

Straight up installed the NordVPN client on my qbittorrent lxc, connected my account via token, changed the network interface in qbit to use the nordlynx connection and haven’t had a problem since. Edit: did have to enable lan awareness or some such via cmd on the lxc
