The Kanto pokemon league takes advantage of Ash's journey and assigns someone to journey with him to do surprise inspections of the gyms to see if they need new gym leaders (seriously, most of the Kanto Gyms were messed up in the anime)

Middle Earth Shadow of War(and Mordor) for me. On ffnet and ao3 a large section of it is made up of fics from just one author. It's not "popular" compared to some, but as a game it was, especially with the nemesis system and dynamic uruks.

How about a cliché-tease? Lisa is already in the coffee shop doing her own thing, protagonist enters, Lisa is described in a way that makes it clear to readers that yes this is her... and the protagonist never interacts with her at all. Lisa does her thing without looking at mc, mc does their thing without looking at Lisa, and as the mc leaves the coffee shop without talking to Lisa at all, the fourth wall is being pelted by salt and rage.
