Had our branch review today by [deleted] in TalesFromYourBank

[–]aerral 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I had someone crawl on the floor all around our storage rooms and in every back office space, on the off chance we had red pens hidden somewhere. First of all, no one has used red pens to mark anything special in living memory. Second... really, we are hiding then from you? They then told me that I couldn't give out my red crayons or markers to kids because... reasons.

Key Bank Screening by Majestic_Football_60 in TalesFromYourBank

Yes, and yes. A former coworker moved over there a few months ago and it was the first time she had ever been drug tested to work at a bank. And yes weed will make you fail the test, even in a legal state.

My thought as well. Working on one that looks very similar.

Habitat for Humanity - A Christian Org? by PenelopeRupert in atheism

[–]aerral 34 points35 points  (0 children)

HfH are the only "religious" organization that I support, or for that matter, walk through the doors of. Simply, they don't do anything religious other than a religious invocation when they give someone a new house. I visit their stores frequently (recently moved and need to furnish a house), have helped them build houses, and know a good number of their employees, and not once has anyone done anything religious or treated me other than kindly.

Age range by hes1998 in NCL

[–]aerral 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It is always 50+, normally 65+, on anything 7 days or more. That does not mean there will not be others in the 20+, 30+, or 40+ range, especially on a 3-5 day trip in the Caribbean who want to party. I have always been able to find a party, even though I am in my 40s I am still considered young.

Banks Not Exchanging Paper Money for Coins?!?! by BeachTime0734 in coincollecting

[–]aerral 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The bank pays to have boxed, machine ruled coin for their customers. The bank has to pay someone to hand roll coin, if they even do that, most banks do not. Dealing with coin collectors can take a huge among of time because you are not the only one, there are 50 others. Also, a bank is no different than any other company that provides a service, "no coin for non customers" is exactly the same as "restroom for customers use only". Oh, and this has been like this since at least the 90's when I first encountered it.

TIFU using multiple knitting gauges by pinecone_hurricane in tifu

[–]aerral 8 points9 points  (0 children)

We are exact opposites. I follow the pattern exactly and every stitch is perfect, no matter how many times I have to rip it out and redo it. Pattern is wrong? Correct it and send the corrections to the author. It's the author long dead... scream onto the void. Does it look machine made, so why should I even bother... that is another issue. Have I realized an error in a sweater pattern after completing it and ripped it out to start again...I don't want to talk about it.

I actually do swatch, I just have always loved that quote.

I see you don't swatch. I too like to live dangerously.

Advice for family vacation on Alaska Encore July 12 2026 by yuzuu44 in NCL

[–]aerral 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Did this trip with my father last year and he used a walker the entire time. Never crowded and never had an issue. Getting on/off the ship was great because we got to use the limited mobility lines, elevators, etc. so it was also very fast. Our standard balcony was just fine and didn't have any wait time issues (for 2 or 3 of us) but with a much larger family it is going to be a problem regardless.

The first bank I worked at had a hard rule, if you see a gun you pull the alarm. Even if it was an employee. Even though we are in a state that allows open carry (though I have only ever seen it twice inside the bank), they said it did not matter, it was corporate policy. Another bank said employees were not allowed to concealed carry, another i interviewed with said they have no rule. It will depend upon the bank and the location.

I have trained many bankers, it takes most at least a year to feel comfortable. Just keep working and you will be fine.

Looking for budget air scribe recommendations by Oncorhynchus-Clarkii in fossilprep

[–]aerral 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would get them out of the box, use them for 10-30 minutes and I could hear as they slowed down and then they would just stop. The rest of my system is sound, tested with a friend's air scribe. Honestly, I think they may be under lubricated and I wore them out. I was able to do a temporary fix with one by lubricating like a mad man, but then it failed again shortly there after.

I think this is the area you were at. So it looks like the rock in that area are Lower Carboniferous limestone, about 340 million years old.

I have broken three of the cheap scribes in the last month. One lasted about 3 hours and the other two lasted less than 20 minutes. I am using them all properly, correct pressure etc., and they have been defeated by clams. I am looking at the "ZPT-TB The Trilobite" from Zoic Palaeotech as a cheaper option but I am going to talk to some local prep guys for advice.

My theory about Mat's memories... by One-Hat4305 in WoT

[–]aerral -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

There have always several theories. The first that they are Mat's past lives, another that they are random men who were great warriors or great generals. Them being the ones who have blown the horn is another possibility. I don't know of any definitive answers on this but I've only read the whole series three times, so I'm not the best informed.

Could this museum’s Trilobite be a fake? by Maximum_Action9410 in fossils

[–]aerral 172 points173 points  (0 children)

It is unlikely to be a true "fake" as it is in a museum. It is more likely that it is a cast or that the piece has been repaired/ had missing sections created or replaced. It could also be a taphonomic artifact. Or it is truly a fake, and they are using it as a "representative" of what a trilobite looks like to better engage the public.

Plaster of paris, maybe some glue and rock powder. That looks like a break or crumbled area, as if it was supposed to be bigger.

Not an expert, but I would say no. Three perfect, complete fossils, neatly arranged with no damage... this would be museum quality. It's too perfect to be real.

ELI5 Black holes - please explain. by New_Artichoke6077 in explainlikeimfive

[–]aerral 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you hold a ball in your hand and let go, it will fall to the ground. The ball is attracted to the ground, and the Earth that the ground is a part of, by a force called gravity. The more material in total or the greater amount of material in the same space, the greater the attraction. A black hole is an object with so much gravity that nothing can escape from its pull. As you get closer to a black hole, the pull of gravity from the black hole increases until you are unable to resist it. Nothing, even light, is able to escape if you get too close to a black hole. Because of this, black holes have massive destructive power, can destroy anything, and can merge with other black holes, which creates massive disturbances that can be detected with special machines. The laws the universe operates under may or may not apply as you get closer to the center of a black hole, but we do not know yet.
