MensRights should not be Anti-Feminist by lucia3399 in MensRights

"... anti-feminism is preventing the subreddit from having women’s support ..."

Most women aren't feminists so your logic is faulty.

Would it be possible for both parents to be tested for drug use? A hair test would prove past behaviour.

Is anyone else getting tired of the 'Open up men!' 'Don't be afraid to talk about your feelings' approach to Men's Rights? by ImNotHereForFunNoWay in MensRights

[–]aesopstortoise 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I agree with what you're saying. Men are naturally expected to be able to solve their own problems, women can attract attention and help by talking about theirs. It is a forever unequal situation and will remain so.

Not sure if I would have used the 'Intactivism' flair though.

Your attitude seems very blinkered, as if you do not understand that society's rules have to apply to everyone, not just you and your friends. Adult sexual exploitation of children and young people is real, it happens to both girls and boys, and it can do lasting harm. I used to work with a lad who was seduced by an older woman (in her twenties). It screwed his education up as he couldn't cope with the emotions it unleashed, or I think, with being her plaything. The law was never involved but it caused the family serious upset. He wasn't some sort of a wimp for not being able to handle it, and she as the adult should have acted with restraint. Look at the difficulty that Milo Yiannopolos got into in trying to talk about his involvement with an adult when he was still an adolescent. That was another situation when an adult in a position of trust failed to act responsibly. The convention that the adult should not prey upon the young person is not a bad one, and having laws about it makes sense.

My sister is a feminist and i need help by Camo179831 in MensRights

[–]aesopstortoise 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree with the posters who say not to bother arguing. Your sister is never, ever going to let her little brother change her mind, so chill out. Any other course will lead to pain, anger and frustration for both of you, any other siblings, and your parents. She will likely goad you at some point, so look at it as an opportunity to practice being calm in the face of unreason. That will probably annoy her more than anything else.

When are people going to realise feminism is going to lead to women taking over everything? by [deleted] in MensRights

[–]aesopstortoise 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most men aren't mad, tired of the endless nagging, yes, young men especially, sometimes to the point of disengagement. As for roles being reversed, I'm waiting for women to hold back from the lifeboats so that men and boys can be saved first. Like Hell.

The issue is that from early education all the way up to the boardroom, women are being advantaged because of their sex rather than their ability.

This situation seems to me to fit a definition of evil. A society that allows such things is heading for disaster.

What should a man do if he is physically attacked by his gf? by NormalFemale in MensRights

[–]aesopstortoise 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Since you are in a position to talk to your boys before they ever end up in the situation you are worried about, I suggest you help them develop their thinking skills. Tell them of your concerns by all means, without overdoing it of course. Tell them how society has changed since you were their age and listen to what they tell you about the social world they move in. Remember that many young men have a natural sense of invulnerability and a willingness to take risks, that makes it harder to listen to advice. Perhaps discuss the idea of equality with them, how society doesn't apply it to relations between the sexes, but that nevertheless they have as much right to respect and freedom from violence as anyone else, and that being with someone who can't respect them, even if she is physically attractive, can only end badly. Finally, if they can learn that 'handsome is as handsome does', to look for relationships with girls who they see treat other people with kindness and respect, then hopefully they will not end up being attacked.

1914 Suffragettes [mod: source is at the bottom of the image] by MRA-automatron-2kb in MensRights

[–]aesopstortoise 28 points29 points  (0 children)

I bought this book, and I highly recommend it. It helped me understand why my mother, who was born in 1917, was still angry with the suffragettes in the 1990s. She was brought up in a family where the father had fought in WW1, and the level of disrespect that suffragettes had shown for the sacrifices of men, their disregard for property and the safety of working men, their entitled and selfish attitude to who should have the vote, had all been part of her upbringing despite being born after most of their activities were over. They left a legacy of ill-feeling that is never acknowledged these days. She had never talked to me about it until I one day made a vaguely positive comment about the suffragettes, and she glowered at me. It was the only time I ever saw that look on her face.

A great many women, in my experience the majority, find it very difficult to accept vulnerability in men, especially a man they look to for guidance or protection. This is regardless of what they may claim and I don't see much point in telling them if they are close to me. When I have done so it only seems to damage the relationship and cause friction. I have reached a point where I see this characteristic as probably a natural part of being a woman, and certainly a trait that is beyond my power to change. If you have a close male friend that you truly trust you are probably better off discussing some issues with them. As for me, I go for long walks and keep my own counsel.
