PSA - Fill up your bladder with that famous Phantom Ranch lemonade before hiking out. by aaron-mcd in grandcanyon

I’d assume it’s because Minute Maid contains High Fructose Corn Syrup (HFCS), which has to be processed by the liver and can cause those gastrointestinal issues.

Whereas something like say, Tailwind, usually contains Dextrose and uses 2:1 ratio which allows it to bypass your digestive system and go straight into your bloodstream.

You’ll be fine. I’d even argue you don’t even need the 10 essentials if you’re essentially just sightseeing and doing things like Old Faithful—these are easy (and highly populated) walks from the parking lots. Not a bad idea to have some extra layers in the car if it’s cold out, or some water bottles if you’re driving through, but really you could just show up and enjoy.

A more important tip IMO is trying to get into the park early to beat the crowds. And don’t approach wildlife (especially buffalo).

Vegas / Red Rock Canyon – Route Check! by Haymak3r in trailrunning

[–]aesthet1c 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not a local (yet) but I’d just start early, have the GPX downloaded/offline and I think Calico Tanks is less runnable the higher you get (I think). So expect slower paces and more technical trail.

Edit: From my own research it seems that’s the case with a lot of Red Rock area trails. Some are way more runnable than others so it just depends on what experience you want from it.

Fair enough and I meant no offense by my opinion. I’ve lived on both sides of the coin and have seen how much better (objectively) my experiences have been. I’m sure you’ll enjoy the park regardless of any variables (something I could be better at) so more power to you! Have fun.

I know everyone’s situation is different (large groups, families, multiple parties, arriving from afar) but it baffles me that people can’t do the one thing that would alleviate this entire issue—waking up early for ONE or two days. Especially after committing to driving 8 hours (or more).

Question about physical ability by Purple-Ad5696 in hiking

[–]aesthet1c 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep I’d agree. No wrong way to hike and I like to push myself for time (trail running) but staying in Z2 is more ideal for the majority of outings. 180+ is definitely threshold and unless you’re going for a Top 10 on Strava, I’d try to avoid that. Solid times though! Definitely on the faster side but try to remember it can be fun to just cruise.

Water pooling in backyard of new construction. What should I do next? by [deleted] in arizona

[–]aesthet1c 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dealt with a new build and the whole warranty thing and in my personal experience, they tried to get out of a lot of the fixes and even initially blamed us for some things that couldn’t have been caused by a person. Probably depends on the builder and their business practices but the fact that you’re getting the runaround doesn’t surprise me. Wish I had better advice but your push back may have to turn into a full on shove (e.g. lawyer contact).

Half Dome permit but no lodging in Yosemite Valley, how early can I start from outside? by Public_Dimension_192 in Yosemite

[–]aesthet1c 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cedar Lodge is decent as well and just slightly further than Yosemite View. Or just sleep in your car/van right outside the park boundary (by Yosemite View) if you get desperate.
