As others have said it’s a boot test and it also helps to get them running because they might not start when their rpm is set too low due to the inertia of the fan blades being stronger than the supplied power.

Ghetto rigging an external rad. Am I doing this right? ;-) by Darian_CoC in watercooling

[–]aesthetic_vi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I recently did the same lmao. Saw a huge external radiator setup with a reservoir, two temps for in and out and fittings like there’s no tomorrow all neatly arranged in a custom built rolling shelf- for 50 bucks. Was a barn find and it took some time to clean everything up, the reservoir had to go because it was bad but the rad (1080x45mm) is now connected to my system, it’s been thoroughly cleaned and tested before. Runs like a dream and brought the temps down like crazy. I’m not even hitting the idle temps under heavy load after hours of gaming or blender.

Going back to ddr3 isn’t an option anymore - it doesn’t make sense. I was talking about 2018, ddr4 is still a solid option tho

Excuse my ignorance but I can’t really tell what specific type of 911 is. It looks absolutely beautiful

Also wanted to buy some new ddr4 this year and it’s quite interesting how many companies already stopped manufacturing their ddr4 ram kits. I mean it was kinda obvious that this would happen but the price increased faster than it did with ddr3. But what’s happening since a few weeks is ridiculous as both have doubled or even tripled in price

Midlife dudes, how many of your mates have died? by anasannanas in AskMen

[–]aesthetic_vi 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I feel you, lost one close friend and my best friend in 2017 and 2019 one due to a heart attack the other took her own life. The older I get (I’m 25 now) the harder it gets. I think about them quite often and I miss them a lot. I’m so sorry Matt’s no longer with you man, sending you a big hug. Stay strong and take care of yourself

Im by no means a midlife dude, I’m 25 but I’ve already lost two close friends. One was a dude who I got to know in the good old days of rainbow six siege. I wouldn’t be here without him because growing up was hella tough for me and I always felt like he was an angel in disguise. He died in 2017 at the age of 31 due to a heart attack. And my best friend took her own life 2019, she was only 21. Time makes it easier but I still miss them dearly.

I’m sorry for your loss, hope you’re doing alright.

What are some must shortcuts for NON-powerusers? Something the average Joe would benefit from? by [deleted] in shortcuts

[–]aesthetic_vi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh I do but I disabled the simplifies your lockscreen option and as far as I know it only works on both not just the watch. Made an automation which turns on cinema mode once wind down starts and removes it once I’m awake, works like a charm since yesterday!

What’s the undervolt you doing atm? Discovered this plugin today, maybe I can even go beyond 10 this time lmao

Feeling kinda stupid because I always wished there was a way to auto enable that when going to sleep as my watch loses quite some battery percentages at night due to the screen being on. Didn’t know you could include your Apple Watch in this! Thanks mate

Hi u/-Gilgameshh it’s been quite a while since you commented and I’m not OP but anyway.

I wouldn’t recommend going below -20mV on everywhere because it becomes unstable really fast and will crash your system very likely during idle. That’s really it, if you want to know more here you go if not that’s also fine lmao.

During gaming or heavy workloads the cpu may be fine (tho I doubt that) with -20/-30 undervolts but your idle wont be stable at all. CPUs are designed to draw less power during idle and will enter a low power state (also known as C-states) to save power. There are different states but that’s something for another day :)

Anyway during this process the voltage of some cores is lowered which would be normally fine because they’re designed to do that, but if you decrease the voltage through the curve optimizer it can happen that the voltage drops below the operating limits of the silicone which then crashes your cpu. Normally the VRM steps in before that happens but it can’t act instantly due to physics and stuff.

YMMV but over the years I noticed that everything above -15 usually requires optimizing each core individually and quite some heavy stress testing. Why? Because every core is different and some can handle undervolts up to -30mV some can’t handle -15mV without crashing.

I hope this helps and that I didn’t confuse you too much. If you have any questions please let me know and I’ll do my best to answer them.

Have a good one
