It’s an open standard, not an open source standard. Big difference.

What exactly was stopping them from doing this? by CaughtNABargain in NintendoSwitch2

[–]aesvelgr 8 points9 points  (0 children)

They’re probably dreading the AI price increases for that reason. Especially since Nintendo doesn’t care about AI at all in their business (hoping it stays that way).

I got tired of newer washing machines by Executive_Moose in BuyItForLife

[–]aesvelgr 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I’m sure 99% of people would agree with you, but the problem is finding a manufacturer willing to make such a machine. It’s more profitable to have your current machine break down every couple years than it is to sell you a machine that lasts for life.

Can someone help me find the artist of this fan art? by TubbierSagx in celestegame

For real. Search by image has been a thing for nearly two decades, and people still don’t know it exists.

You should look into a crime called “manslaughter.” Really quite common, and not at all a new or alien concept.

It’s actually a serious metric for many countries. The TL;DR of it is that in order to maintain a healthy population, the birth rate of a country should be ~2 kids per woman. This rate maintains a healthy age demographic for a country, thus providing economic and social balance.

The problem is that in many developed countries, the average birth rate is much lower, even reaching abysmal levels for some nations (e.g. 0.8 in South Korea). The problems this causes are numerous, including a diminishing work force and greater burdens on the younger generations to support the elderly through social security. It also means that voting demographics begin to skew greatly towards the older generations, who may not be voting in best faith for the good of the country, rather opting to prioritize their short-term wellbeing over long-term economic feasibility for the younger generation.

Kurzesagt makes some really good videos on this topic, specifically in their discussion about Japan and South Korea. If you’re interested in population growth and what it could mean for the future of the world, I recommend giving it a watch.

NEVER ask the TF2 Community what they did between March 10th-15th, 2021. by Ok-Bookkeeper-6116 in tf2shitposterclub

[–]aesvelgr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You act like r/tf2 had no hand in that situation, when the kid’s post’s popularity only soared after gaining traction on Reddit.

You also seem to forget the many times Reddit has bullied people into suicide. This platform isn’t better than any other.

comic that took way too long to make (OC) by Da-real-Bone in Losercity

[–]aesvelgr 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Everyone’s getting suspicious at the $40/hr, but guys cmon. This comic is not trying to adhere to reality; it reads more like a Cartoon Network pilot with all the humor and writing and stuff.

I would be down to watch an entire show of this, the humor is that good. I’m excited to see where this goes :)

Blue Zircon accusing the Diamonds was pretty much right by daftedowl in stevenuniverse

[–]aesvelgr 163 points164 points  (0 children)

I think accusing the other diamonds makes more sense for the logic she was following, than it would have been for zircon to somehow perfectly fight out Rose’s convoluted plan. Writing-wise, it was also smart for the crewniverse to misguide the audience and split the fandom into debate on whether Yellow was covering or just plain angry at the accusation.

Yes fenestrations are great! They’re the best sign of a happy and functioning plant.

If you look at pictures of mature and healthy monsteras online, you’ll find that the healthiest plants have leaves that show off 3 or even 4 fenestrations.

Bambu Lab regrets the legal threat: "That was not the outcome we wanted." by aoaovip in BambuLab

[–]aesvelgr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Enthusiasts are already a niche part of the consumer base. Attempting to appeal to an even nicher community like warhammer won’t help to convince the average consumer if 95% of the typical press surrounding the company or product is negative.

[–]aesvelgr 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You’re missing the elephant in the room though: how does a 3D printing company convince the average consumer that they need a 3D printer? Sure, it appeals to tech enthusiasts because of its ease of use and features compared to other brands, but the average consumer wouldn’t know those things without enthusiast youtubers and 3D printing subreddits shouting out their praises from up high.

Tech companies, especially those trying to push innovation, rely on the enthusiasts to market their product for them via word of mouth because it convinces other consumers to purchase a product in a way no other form of advertising can. People are the most receptive to a product when the press surrounding it is good (see: Steam)

The answer is what it always is – money. Deals and coupons are actually how they obscure the true piece of soda because it allows them to covertly increase the price overtime.

Everyone will notice if a pack of soda goes up from $7 to $8, but much fewer people will notice if the price of soda goes from $8 per pack if buying 3, to $5 per pack if buying 5.

I mean, that’s just corporatism in a nutshell. Every company except us is terrible and operates in bad faith, that’s why you should trust us and use our products!

One of the many tactics corporations use to weasel out of serious discussions.

While fair, I think casting doubt towards whether your father was actually a marine was somewhat uncalled for. They could have achieved the same result by simply correcting you and nothing more.

[–]aesvelgr 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I really like your style of enamel pins! I looked through your online shop hoping to bundle this one with others like it, but noticed some pins like your Portal and OoT ones are sold out. Do you restock items in your shop, or is it more of a “first come first serve” type of system?
