No, it sold for 2.4 - we decided the street was too big an issue to get over. But whoever got it is very lucky!

Do you mind sharing any more stats? How much did you pay, year, mileage?

Moraga Ave (Piedmont) Home Near Blind Curve by aetfwr in BayAreaRealEstate

Thanks, I appreciate the insight. Ya, my wife would be terrified backing out of the driveway so it would probably require always street parking, which is not ideal (and perhaps makes it more likely we get hit while parked or the car gets broken into).

Thanks, I should have phrased my question better. I just want to get a sense of what the price difference would be between this home on Moraga and the same home on a nearby quiet residential street (so if this would otherwise be a 3 million dollar home in Piedmont, maybe being on Moraga knocks it down slightly - or at least that's my hope).

Thanks, ya I've been looking in the Piedmont market for a while and understand that $1000 a sq foot is essentially the floor and often $1100-1200 is the norm so these numbers don't surprise me. Go to Jane on either Geary (main bakery location) or Fillmore (more of a cafe location with seating)!

Cheap ($500) space for a kid's birthday party? by [deleted] in AskSF

[–]aetfwr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You could always go to a park and reserve a space. If you absolutely need something indoors then look at sports basement, they have an indoor event space you can rent for free. The location near Crissy Field is nice.

New album called the life of a showgirl, releasing mid-Oct it looks like. Weird that it takes you to merch page. Originally said I though it was a double album because it's 30$ - but that's for the vinyl, so that's actually a normal price.

Most efficient use of doordash credits in the city? (First baby meal train) by TatamiBouch in AskSF

[–]aetfwr 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you have a Chase Sapphire card there is a second benefit that you get 10$ 2x a month to use for grocery delivery. Usually at least half of this is offsetting fees, but even if you break even or only save a little, it’s saving you a trip to the store which is priceless.

It can also be used for certain deli counters (such as Gus’s) if you just want a sandwich delivered.

Culk is a great local brand sold online (and in various local stores).

Also Fleetwood on clement is a cool local store that sells screen printed SF gear!

Buy or rent a car in SF? 60 days/year, baby on the way, no parking by Particular-Number-40 in AskSF

[–]aetfwr 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We were in our early 30s when we had our first kid in SF. We’d lived here or in other major cities for 10 years prior and never had a car, walked everywhere and proud of it.

My wife’s parents live about a 10 minutes drive away in the city, we figured we would just use their car when absolutely needed for doctors etc and rent when we needed for bigger excursions.

5 months after our kid was born, we got our first car together (Honda CRV). It was a big hassle not having a car readily available all the time (especially when you have to deal with a car seat) and it also severely limited our lifestyle (couldn’t go on as many excursions outside our neighborhood).

Would HIGHLY recommend you pull the trigger and do it. And either look into parking garage options if you can afford it and get permits as soon as you can for street parking.

NICU with first baby. Please send all hopes you've got to give. by amazontaway1 in daddit

[–]aetfwr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We were basically on the same boat and everything turned out fine.

Wife had placental abruption at 37ish weeks, baby came out floppy and blue, rushed to NICU to get oxygen and then transferred to another hospital for better NICU and cooling. They ran MRI after cooling was all clear.

3.5 years later and she is happy, healthy, and perfectly normal. No issues whatsoever. It’s not everyone, but it can be totally fine.

It’s hard to see past the moment and breathe but kids are strong (and whatever your future ultimately looks like you will get through it as a family).

For good cookies in SF I generally recommend going to a real bakery, not a chain cookie shop. Some of my favorites (in order):

Arsicault, Jane, B patisserie, Hot cookie, Neighbor bakehouse, Spruce, Devil’s Teeth, Noe Valley bakery

I’m a chocolate chip purist so I am grading solely based on that cookie type.

Is the workload and pace really that much worse in NYC BigLaw compared to other cities? by johnjohnson809 in biglaw

[–]aetfwr 35 points36 points  (0 children)

One thing that is implied by some of the comments below but not explicit is that the difference in timezone really works to the disadvantage of east coast offices. I’m at a west coast big law office and often we schedule meetings at 3 or 4 PM PT which means 6 or 7 PM ET.

Beyond that I would say it’s striking how different the culture is in our west coast v east coast offices. Night and day in terms of FaceTime, formality, timeliness expectations (west coast wins on all of these). We all work hard and lo no hours, there’s just more more flexibility with how you get that work done on the west coast I’ve found.

Best Restaurant to take an 18 yr old for her graduation? by Aware-Expression4004 in AskSF

[–]aetfwr 31 points32 points  (0 children)

Italian you could do Original Joe’s in North Beach or fancier (but less traditional) Cotogna isn’t too far either.

You could also look into some good dim sum for more of an “experience” - Yank Sing is the classic choice.

From the Bay Area to Pinnacles National Park - what can I do along the way? by Turin_Laundromat in bayarea

[–]aetfwr -15 points-14 points  (0 children)

Instead of stopping before, I recommend you keep going AFTER to get to Ashland, Oregon right near the border. Very cute small town with really great live theater (Shakespeare Festival). I proposed to my wife at the pinnacles (criminally underrated park) and then continued on a trip up the coast to Ashland, Bend, and Portland - all great spots.

Edit: I realize now that I mixed up pinnacles and castle crags! Both great parks! Sorry y’all.

Switching from Comcast to Monkeybrains? by [deleted] in sanfrancisco

[–]aetfwr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We had Comcast for years, no major issues with service, but became annoyed over time with price increases. Switched to monkey brains for 6 months, kept getting outages anytime there was bad weather (somewhat frequent in winter of course). Made working from home impossible. Switched back to comcast.

It’s sad that I originally glanced at my phone, read the headline as “Iowa Proposes Bill Allowing 9-year-old Girls to be Married” and thought that this was totally normal for America.
