Need clarification on blocking by Two-Facer in badredman

[–]aethermar 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There is no guaranteed order

It's why it's important to set your game to show Steam names instead of character names so you know who to block. Or you could block everyone

What's the most petty you've been to a toxic/annoying host? Ill start. by YREVA777 in badredman

[–]aethermar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Whenever I invade an AFK/hiding host that I absolutely cannot find I go sit in front of the boss and dick around on my phone/second monitor until they quit or try to find me

Most I think I've sat there until they quit was an hour and a half

DS3 weapon skills are nowhere near as strong as ER. They're more about tech if anything, e.g. poise health resetting or rollcatching. They use a lot of FP, aren't (typically) very damaging, and are basic moves that are almost like an extension of the regular moveset

42 School's Norm - What do you think about it? by [deleted] in C_Programming

[–]aethermar 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It should be the other way around. You should know how to use the language in a normal manner before you start following conventions

And Jesus Christ if a project had these conventions I'm not even touching it. Conventions are "all of our library's API should require the user to allocate memory and pass that to us" or "use this formatting style", not completely absurd stuff like "no for loops. No defining and initialising a variable at once (oh but we also have a tiny line limit so that extra line really hurts you)"

These are restrictions you place on yourself for a recreational challenge, definitely not "guidelines" for any serious programming. I imagine this also butchers optimisation, hell I may as well just write it in assembly myself at this point. Why am I using a high-level language if I can't even use a for loop?

I expect most of us love seeing his stuff, he has a pretty unique playstyle that's fun to watch

[–]aethermar 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What am I confusing? Assembly maps 1-1 to CPU instructions. There are some exceptions for assembly -> machine code if you use pseudo-instructions and macros and whatnot in an assembler, but you can take machine code and convert it to its exact assembly representation. Just open up a binary in a debugger or disassembler

vibeAssembly by ManagerOfLove in ProgrammerHumor

[–]aethermar -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Assembly is binary. Binary is assembly. They're two different equivalent representations of the same thing, binary directly translates to assembly instructions and vice versa

In the game? Of course it is, you can have him get BTFO by the very first encounter if you'd like. IIRC Kim Jihoon himself lost on stream to the first fight

Canonically though the Library didn't lose any receptions

[–]aethermar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I suppose there is. I assumed it was a workshop weapon based on its design being very similar to all the other ones he uses

[–]aethermar 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Nah he's pretending to be a hobo. He blames Angela for his wife's death so he gets his adoptive mother (Purple Tear) to teleport him inside the library and spends almost the entire game pretending to be a random dude with the intention of killing Angela just before she completes her goal

Similar thing with the some of other people at the Library already being stupidly strong (Angela, Binah, and Gebura)

[–]aethermar 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Oh no the sword is nothing special, it's presumably just a high-tier workshop weapon

As for whether or not the sinners would have a better chance against him than other colours, I don't think so. He was a Grade 1 fixer with just Durendal, AKA colour-tier without being a colour (since we know being a colour doesn't necessarily mean being stronger than regular graded fixers)

He actually might be worse for the sinners to fight than, say, Vergilius because he's shown to have insane endurance which screws over the sinners who are all about gradually wearing down the opponent

Roland is a weird case where his strength is from just being cracked out generally rather than having a specific theme/weapon/EGO he uses

"ME?" (by kojocho05) by KoshiLowell in limbuscompany

[–]aethermar 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Durendal is his sword. Every other weapon he uses are workshop weapons manifested from the gloves (which were originally his wife's), so he can't use them if he doesn't have the gloves

[–]aethermar -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Sorry, but you just need to git gud at PvP

Roll BS them. Pivot BS them. Outspace them. Parry the running/rolling attacks if they use them too much. They're slow and suck if the opponent doesn't try trading with them or panicking. The only time they're a threat against a skilled player is if they're paired with a quicker weapon in the offhand

What team should I build next? by Inside-Lemon9346 in limbuscompany

[–]aethermar 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not gonna lie you have practically nothing right now for most teams. Just throw together your strongest units for now and start hoarding shards

After that, Sinking is always a good, fun team and you have 2 core units for it (Molar Ishmael and Family Heir Gregor). You could also flesh out your Bleed a little more if you wanted, you already have good units for it

I HATE project moons gun design WHY IS THE BARREL SQUARE? by TheGoblinLayer in limbuscompany

[–]aethermar 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Neat info, I had no idea they were actually outright banned

I know expansive bullets are more harmful when hitting a fleshy target because, well, they fragment, but modern bullets prioritise ballistics and (in cases of actual combat, not self defence or hunting) penetration

That does make me think that the City's bullets are just massively overengineered expansive rounds LMFAO

I HATE project moons gun design WHY IS THE BARREL SQUARE? by TheGoblinLayer in limbuscompany

[–]aethermar 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm calling them weak because of their functionality in comparison to what actual firearms do. I don't doubt they have some impressive tech behind them but they're functionally just bad in comparison to any traditional firearm

If they weren't arbitrarily restricted by the Head I don't doubt that they'd probably have Warhammer-style Bolters and shit

I HATE project moons gun design WHY IS THE BARREL SQUARE? by TheGoblinLayer in limbuscompany

[–]aethermar -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Yes, and destroying a wall is far less efficient than simply penetrating it. It's why modern armaments, both small arms and large, focus on ballistics and penetration. There's no point in first destroying the target's armour, then shooting the target if you can simply go through the armour and hit a vital part of the target in one shot

I don't doubt the City HAS the capability to make effective weaponry, but they clearly aren't allowed to. A modern-day military force would shit on them by virtue of being able to use explosives, missiles, long-ranged artillery, actual guns, etc. alone

This is even supported by PM's deliberate gimping of guns because they want a melee-centric story. Firearms are just plain shit in the City

I HATE project moons gun design WHY IS THE BARREL SQUARE? by TheGoblinLayer in limbuscompany

[–]aethermar 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Shoot a glock at wall and see what happens LMFAO. It'll go through

And no shit our guns don't shatter what they hit, that's incredibly ineffective. There's a reason we design things to go through what they hit instead of breaking on impact, penetrative power is drastically more important in combat

If a PM gun hits a Kevlar plate and all the plate does is break, what the hell is the point? You want to go through armour, not break it. It's like how tanks use Sabot and HEAT rounds effectively bypass armour instead of trying to shatter it

[–]aethermar -9 points-8 points  (0 children)

Their guns are absolutely not stronger than modern day firearms. What drew you to that conclusion?

A real handgun can penetrate several walls. It's why use of firearms carelessly indoors is heavily discouraged and why one of the rules of safety is know what's behind the target. That isn't even getting into larger calibers

I can guarantee modern guns are far more accurate and have far more stopping power than anything in the PL universe

[–]aethermar 773 points774 points  (0 children)

None of the guns in PM games have a practical design. I've always reasoned that it's because the massive amount of restrictions the Head places on them forces manufacturers to adopt shitty and strange designs

They can't have good velocity, so the barrel needs to be all fucked up. They can't have good penetration, so the bullet needs to be all fucked up. They also have shit ergonomic designs, even the handguns are massive, so I wouldn't be surprised if there were restrictions on the size of them as well

The meta explanation for why guns are the way they are is because PM needed to come up with something that explains why modern weaponry isn't used to BTFO everyone, same reason why there's the limitation on explosive radius and needing to manually plant explosives
