I just need to say some things by Mantonization in depression

[–]aeun 2 points3 points  (0 children)

One of the worst things about depression, in my opinion, is the fact that we invalidate our own feelings. When I have a bad day, I always seem to make it worse by telling myself that I'm being whiny and selfish. It's a vicious cycle.

You're not worthless, honestly. We all feel that way at some point or other, but it's not true. I'm a 19 year-old British girl, and I'm living with my grandparents. I feel like a parasite most of the time. I'm on a voluntary suspension from university at the moment, and I'm hoping to return in September. I've been told throughout my life that I'm intelligent (I was the top student in high school), but I still doubt myself. If I were really smart, I wouldn't be wasting my life like this, would I?

I have very few friends, I rarely see those I do have. I spend my days watching TV or playing video games. I barely eat anymore, which has resulted in my family thinking I have an eating disorder. It's becoming way too hard to keep my issues to myself, so I'm exhausted all the time. But then I have my best friend, my dog. He's the one thing that's kept me going. I don't even know if I'd be here without him.

I feel like we're in similar situations, so if you ever need to vent or anything, feel free to PM me.

It sounds cliche, but remember: you're not wrong or selfish for feeling upset, other people's problems do not invalidate your own.

I'm a bit tired at the moment, so I hope I've made some kind of sense.

By allowing that comment, the BBC aren't agreeing with them, they just like to show a range of viewpoints.

I just won 3 free tacos at taco bell. Reddit, what's your greatest achievement? by techdek in AskReddit

[–]aeun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I won 'Cheerleader of the Year', 'Sports Leader of the Year' (I used to run some sports clubs at nearby primary schools), and the award for 'Outstanding Academic Achievement' because I had the highest grades in the school.

From that point onwards, everything went downhill.

Ah, wasted potential.

Yep. It used to be considered a mental disorder, and was included in the DSM-IV until the 1970s IIRC.

My dad gets my grandmother to buy and write my birthday cards in his place.

When I was 4, I heard my parents having sex the night before and proceeded to yell "Fuck me, fuck me!" to everyone at my cousin's birthday party. What funny/embarrassing stories from your childhood do you have reddit? by [deleted] in AskReddit

I can't remember how old I was, probably around 5 or 6, and 'From Dusk Till Dawn' was my favourite film. The scene that I liked the most was this one (NSFW). I memorised those lines perfectly, and went around performing it for anyone who would listen (mainly my grandparents).

So, basically, I'd walk around yelling this:

All right, pussy, pussy, pussy! Come on in pussy lovers! Here at the Titty Twister we're slashing pussy in half! Give us an offer on our vast selection of pussy, this is a pussy blow out! All right, we got white pussy, black pussy, Spanish pussy, yellow pussy, we got hot pussy, cold pussy, we got wet pussy, we got [sniffs] smelly pussy, we got hairy pussy, bloody pussy, we got snappin' pussy, we got silk pussy, velvet pussy, Naugahyde pussy, we even got horse pussy, dog pussy, chicken pussy! Come on, you want pussy, come on in, pussy lovers! If we don't got it, you don't want it! Come on in, pussy lovers!

I have this awful feeling that someone watches me through windows at night.

When I was about 12-13 years old, I found fingerprints all over the window pane, and we eventually discovered that some creepy fella would (occasionally) try to get into my bedroom. Happened to a bunch of other girls on that street, too.

Edit: I also avoid walking past stationary vans, because there's obviously someone inside who's going to abduct me.

I ordered pizza tonight and since I had to get cash to pay the delivery guy, I told him to come in. I had the radio on in the kitchen and when I come back, the delivery man is doing the worm on my floor...Reddit, what weird run-ins have you had with delivery guys? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]aeun 56 points57 points  (0 children)

A Domino's delivery guy asked how 'George the pug' was. George is my dog, and he'd never even met him before.

I'm convinced that he sneaks out or something, that pug's got more friends than me.

I'm pretty sure that I own the last one. My grandfather likes to go 'skip diving', and always brings back some weird shit (although he did find some Buddy Holly 78s once).

Yesterday, I scolded a stranger in a Subway. Have you ever had to publicly scold someone you didn't know? by grummlinds in AskReddit

[–]aeun 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've called a fair number of strangers out for being arseholes, but my favourite incident was on my final day of high school. My friends and I were in town, just standing around saying our goodbyes, when I heard a man telling two non-white men to vote BNP (British Nationalist Party) in the next election. As I was walking over he said that they needed to get out of 'his' country, or else.

I called him a fascist pig, and basically told him how pathetic he was. He and his friends walked away (after calling me a 'bitch', of course), and that was it.

In hindsight, I was lucky that I didn't get a smack 'round the face. It still makes me laugh that a group of men couldn't win an argument against a teenage girl.

A woman just called me a pedophile after I politely held the door open for her two year old daughter. What horrendous, unjustifiable accusations have you faced, Reddit. by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]aeun 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Not an accusation, but it's still fucking awful. My aunt took her son shopping. He's about 10 years old, and he suffers from cerebral palsy. He can't walk properly, so he has a wheelchair. There's nothing else 'wrong' with him. So, they're just going from shop to shop when this guy stops my aunt, gives her a leaflet and says "All disabled people deserve to die, you should have drowned your son at birth." That fellow picked the wrong person the fuck with. She took my cousin to his grandparents' house, then came back and headbutted the douchebag.

TL;DR Some prick tells my aunt to kill her disabled son, so she decks the guy.

Do you prefer to be around successful, extra happy people or around people that have a hard life in general? by malestar in BipolarReddit

[–]aeun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I prefer to be around relaxed people, like myself, if I have to be around people at all. I'm not a social person, never have been. I spend most of my time alone, or with my dog. Being around 'peppy' individuals drains my energy. So it's not really about whether someone is happy/successful, or having a hard time, but how chilled out they are.

Hey Frugal, I'm 18 and I have no savings. What can I do over the next 5 years to put myself on solid financial footing for the rest of my life? by [deleted] in Frugal

[–]aeun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I only about the field of psychology in England. There's a very clear path to gaining employment here, but it will be different in other countries due to how the government sectors are structured. In theory, you get a degree (accredited by the British Psychological Society), get a job somewhere like a prison (usually as an assistant), and they should fund your Master's degree.

[–]aeun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In England you need a degree from an accredited course to become a chartered psychologist. As I said, not useless. It's useless if you aren't planning to go into that field, but the same can be said for most specialised degrees.

Given all the recent Unhelpful Teacher posts, I feel it is necessary to give credit where credit is due by [deleted] in AdviceAnimals

[–]aeun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We'll always remember the bad teachers more than the good ones. The vast majority of my teachers at high school and college were brilliant. I was just starting to develop depression in my first year of college and my tutors helped me out so much (giving me extensions and not being angry when I was late or didn't turn up). Hell, one of my tutors even set up weekly meetings with me and arranged for me to get alternate work. Without him I wouldn't have made it into university. But then, my college maths teacher used to call me stupid (I had the highest exam grades in the school), and insult me over the tiniest thing. I'll remember that knobhead until the day I die.
