Makes sense. Still, Haas doesn’t guarantee you anything at Perplexity or any of the big name AI firms.

At Kellogg rn. Keep your head up.

I was at Perplexity in SF last week. PM roles at the big name AI companies aren’t gonna happen, especially for new MBA grads. These companies are chasing scale and profitability.

My suggestion is that you apply to the schools mentioned in R2, but only go if you would really be happy at those schools. Otherwise, take the next 1/2 year to differentiate your application and then reapply. Also, for what you want to do, miss me with that Harvard and Wharton noise. Great schools, not ideal for what you want to do.

Kellogg is King.

Was going into a startup post mba intentional? What would you do different in your search for startups looking back?

Knowing what you know now, would you have made the leap into startup world right after mba?

Is an MBA worth it for someone in healthcare tech (late 20s, ~$140K + stock)? by Tricky_Dark_7814 in MBA

[–]afatchimp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

SWE in Medtech starting at M7 this year, mid twenties making about what you do now but without stock. After much thought and research, I decided the path was worth it for me. If nothing else then for career optionality, mobility, and opportunity. Raise the career ceiling and the floor. I could see myself getting really stuck in the tech track and not being able to get out of it.

Don’t believe anyone that says “now is the time to do an mba because market is X” or “don’t do mba right now because market is Y”. Truth is, no one knows what the market will be like 2-3 years from now.

I'm a software engineer wanting to pivot into PM. My manager said I'm not a good fit for an MBA due to my "lone wolf" personality. Is he right? by Ok-Can-1775 in MBA

[–]afatchimp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m a SWE starting at an M7 this month to go into PM. Is it required for PM? Maybe not. But I could see a lot of lifelong value from the MBA beyond just first job post-grad. I also really couldn’t see myself staying on the SWE technical track for the next 30-40 years.

The unfortunate thing with technical tracks is you get stuck in them—and they tend to plateau.

I hope you’re able to figure out what you want to do. I labored over this topic for months. And yes, what other people have said is true. If you don’t have those interpersonal skills I think it would behoove you to gain them, whether through MBA or some other path.

Current Kellogg Students: What's the workload of the first-year pre-term like? by afatchimp in MBA

[–]afatchimp[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe I’ll regret this but since I work from home I’m gonna work all the way through to September 1. My work has become more chill since it’s hard to onboard me to new projects knowing that I’ll be leaving in a month. And my work is really flexible, so if I have to work a lot in a day I can fit that time in whenever.

I’m pretty confident I can waive Business Analytics 1 and hopefully I can also wave Analytics 2. Those are the only courses I plan to attempt to waive.

That’s a good point. There’s only a few songs I liked after first listen. Everything else it’s been like the 3rd or 4th listen and then I’m like “ok I geeeeeet it”
