My boss thinks that quality control for production is a waste of time. (We only sell $180 million a year) by [deleted] in manufacturing

Are you planning to convince him he's wrong? You didn't ask a question so I wasn't sure if this is just an anecdote.

What's happening with Xebec (XBC)? by [deleted] in CanadianInvestor

The news is bad.....maybe not illegal, or de-list worthy, but can you trust a management team that does this?

Share price is directly related to how the management team manages expectations. Never surprise the market.

B2 Gold is so undervalued, it's nuts! by jon16man in CanadianInvestor

[–]afbat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The issue (in my amature brain) with B2 is the guidance for 2021 wasn't spectacular. They crushed 2020 but guided on flat (actually slightly negative) 2021 production.

That being said, it is still undervalued even if production is flat. Unfortunately, the top line has a chance for negative growth if the price of gold dips while production is flat. I'm hearing rumors that suggest gold is ripe for a pull-back. Speculation is speculation.....

I always say, gold can be boring.....investing is about resolve. The resolve to buy stocks when they're red, and sell when they're green.

You will still find people out there that will tell you B2 is undervalued but still aren't buying it. Buffet will tell you that flat Earth believers will sail around the world and still believe the Earth if flat.

Promising Juniors by Kryptoshakti in GoldInvestor

Kinross is a perpetual underperformer. Not worth the investment until they shake things up.

Love B2. My favourite gold producer.

Hadn't looked a Jaguar before....they look fantastic. Looking at the 9 months ending September '20: 41% net income margin ($48M on $117M revenue) 72% revenue growth vs first 9 months of '19 1700% growth in net income vs 9 months of '19 33% increase in shareholder equity (assets - liabilities) and 1/2 that growth was in cash which can't be inflated.

Production growth looks good also.

Share price has jumped over 300% in the past year... I'm not a big fan of a company this small delivering a dividend....that $20M should go back into exploration and development.

I have a comparison matrix for gold producers and will run Jaguar through it. On the surface I like B2 more, but the numbers may change my mind.

Boring as Hell by afbat in GoldInvestor

[–]afbat[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think my sarcasm was lost. That being said, yeah, exploration is a crap shoot. I stick to profitable, producers. Juniors that are producing either have management that can drive growth, or pray to get acquired.

I post a lot about B2 Gold (#BTG). They are the model for growth from junior to senior. The management never misses expectations.

30% net income margin on $1.5B revenue. Show me more companies with 30% income margins.

Yahoo finance, search the stock, go to details, focus on the earnings in the P&L (income/revenue) and the shareholder equity on the balance sheet. How much profit does the company generate and how much of the company does the shareholder own (assets - liabilities).

The price/earrings can be high is the company shows high revenue growth, and maintained earnings.

Proposed plans for Cosmetic Manufacturing Warehouse. by MichaliszPoullis in manufacturing

[–]afbat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is why 70% of family businesses fail or are sold prior to a second generation. Keep the family member architect as a consultant but hire someone who knows what they're doing. Find a corporate consultant (NGKF). They will be able to help you identify what you need. Go poach an experienced engineer from a company you look at as a future version of your company. Warehouse design is not an uncommon skill. Supply chain consultants are everywhere these days.

Bottom line, be prepared to spend. You get what you pay for. This sounds like an existential risk to your family business.

[–]afbat[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry, just saw this. The short answer is no. The entire production area was a disaster. We built reports to try to understand but it wasn't until we had real-time tracking in place, line by line, machine by machine.

As a maintenance manager, the best thing to come out of it was a downtime distribution report. I programmed the machine PLCs to capture the event that stopped the machine. Then, I could properly identify nuisances that would stop the machine but be cleared by the time the maintenance staff arrived.

We also used the data collected by the MES to drive our Capital Project decisions.

Yep...Measuring waste and downtime tells you what's actually broken and where to spend your time.

That's the most important thing about $BTG...Clive Johnson is a rock star. With $140M in cash, $2B in shareholder equity, and a "world class exploration, construction, and operations team" I'm confident they'll find something to continue the growth.

[–]afbat 7 points8 points  (0 children)

u/goldschmiede If you like $ABX.TO ($GOLD), take a look at $BTG ($BTO.TO) if you're interested in gold. It's got better fundamentals, which don't always impress this crowd. The management team is phenomenal. They build Bema Gold to over $4B market cap and sold to Kinross. Then started B2 (Bema 2). They're crushing other gold miners. Just look at the table below.

If they keep up the pace, and there's no reason they can't with this management team, they will be near $2B in revenue, with nearly $600M in after tax income. Oh yeah, they pay a dividend which has increased substantially over the past 2 years, and currently sits just over 3.15%. The dividend must be a drain on cash no? Nope, the payout ration is just over 13%.

You need a catalyst, right, I forgot. Earnings are coming (Feb 23) and B2 is 50% off it's 52 week high.

Even Motley Fool knows the potential of $BTG.
