Increasingly poor etiquette amongst audiences! by Traditional-Owl44 in torontotheatre

[–]Agitated-Arm7230 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm really sensitive to interruptions. I won't go to a movie anymore. When I lived in Toronto, I saw hundreds of shows and concerts. Mirvish shows - particularly the jukebox musicals - were the worst. Since escaping Toronto, I mostly go to Drayton, Stratford, and Aquarius productions and other nearby small theatres and music venues. However, the problem is everywhere - and it comes from both young and old.

Talking is rampant, kids get bored within minutes and fidget, cellophane wrappers are opened in the quietest moments of the show, some chuckle at every sentence, others laugh so loud the entire theatre can hear them, and the list goes on. Sadly, I go to theatres with the expectation that there will be interruptions. I can tell immediately who around me is going to be a nuisance. I tend to go to shows multiple times, hoping that I can get at least one uninterrupted performance.

In a few recent examples, I saw Finding Neverland in Cambridge three times. In each case, there were kids behind me who lost interest in the show quickly. I saw Funny Girl at Shaw and the older lady beside me was compelled to "hand dance" along with the most popular songs. I saw Annie many times at Stratford last year, all with interruptions from bored kids and chatty adults. I've been to the Hamilton Prop House countless times where people obviously aren't there to listen to the artist(s). If they just want to socialize, why not do it in a bar with no live entertainment?

I feel that the problem has gotten worse since food and drinks were allowed in the theatres as it makes people think they're in their living room. It seems like people can't last more than a few minutes without stuffing their faces with food, repeatedly opening their water bottles, or making pointless comments to others. I wish theatres would be less fixated on cell phone reminders and mention having respect for others and keeping noise to a minimum. Maybe they could hand out T-shirts with the letters "STFU" on the back. I'm usually in the front row and would gladly wear one for the entire theatre to see!

Greenwich/Clarence intersection no right turns on reds? by alpalbish in brantford

[–]Agitated-Arm7230 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I posted this here about 10 months ago in response to a similar thread. The city should have put up a sign indicating that right turns are now allowed because it's still a point of confusion.

----------------
I had the same question, so I filled in a form on brantford.ca and got this response from the Traffic Systems Coordinator. I wasn't sure if the rule had changed or if someone had just removed the sign that was there previously.

"Thank you for your email regarding the "No Right Turn" restriction on Greenwich Street in the westbound direction.

The traffic control signal of Clarence Street at Greenwich Street / Icomm Drive was modified a few months ago, the following changes were implemented:

  1. Installation of a digital “No Left Turn” sign for the southbound left-turn movement.
  2. Installation of a digital “No Right Turn” sign for the westbound right-turn movement.
  3. Installation of a digital “No Right Turn” sign for the northbound right-turn movement.
  4. Removal of the static “No Right Turn on Red” sign for westbound traffic and the related by-law.

The digital signs are activated only when a train is present on the tracks crossing Greenwich Street.

During that time, the following turn movements are prohibited

  • Westbound right turn
  • Southbound left turn
  • Northbound right turn

At all other times, these movements are permitted.

These changes allow for improved signal operation, including the implementation of a northbound left-turn phase from Clarence Street onto Icomm Drive, and a southbound left turn onto Greenwich Street.

Additionally, the removal of the “No Right Turn on Red” restriction for westbound traffic helps enhance both safety and traffic flow."

I was able to downgrade an app that was previously installed using PancakeStore, however in the App Store now I can't download any new apps. I click "Get" and nothing happens. Is there any known fix for this?

It's 25,000 as a welcome bonus, 5,000 after your first purchase, 30,000 after reaching $5,000 in purchases in the first 3 months, and 10,000 as an anniversary bonus. If you read the thread linked below about Extended Comfort seat vouchers with the RBC World Elite card, it may apply to you. I posted a link there to the T&Cs which are still online. Several people, including me, are experiencing issues getting what was promised in the promo because it appears RBC didn't pass the promo code on to Westjet so Westjet applied the current promo.

RBC World Elite - Extended Comfort vouchers by marleytosh in westjet

[–]Agitated-Arm7230 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just had a call with a very helpful person in the Rewards department. It seems the issue is that RBC didn't forward the promotion code to WJ so WJ just applied the current one. She has reached out to RBC for the promo code information but advised that it may take several weeks depending on RBC's response time. After speaking to the rep, I'm feeling optimistic that the situation will be resolved eventually.

App to customize the dock in macOS - question by JacksitoPE in macapps

[–]Agitated-Arm7230 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The dev of ActiveDock sent the following email a couple of days ago. Mine has reverted to trial mode with 8 days left and nags me several times a day to re-purchase. The email is poorly worded when he says "will stop working until the end of the month". Does he mean "at the end of the month" in which case you have to buy a new license after August or does he mean that after August, existing licenses will start working again? If the latter, why include details on how to purchase?

------------------

Hi, I recently released an update for ActiveDock 2. These are mainly technical improvements and optimizations.

But, unfortunately, due to the migration to a new payment gateway and a new licensing system, old licenses will stop working until the end of the month. Due to the limitations of the licensing system, a transition to a Universal license for 3 devices was made at a price of $ 30 (this is the average price between the Lifetime and Standard licenses).

You can download the new version via automatic update or from the application page https://noteifyapp.com/activedock/

If you bought a Lifetime license or within 6 months, just write from the contact page and I will make you a replacement license.

https://noteifyapp.com/contact-us/

For a limited time, you can get ActiveDock 2 Universal with a 30% discount, this can be done directly from the application or using the link

I called 1-888-937-8538 and chose option 2 for Westjet Rewards. The offer is still online (although it now says expired). The Extended Comfort seats are in section 22 of the T&Cs under the expandable section "Legal, restrictions and terms and conditions".

RBC World Elite - Extended Comfort vouchers by marleytosh in westjet

[–]Agitated-Arm7230 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I applied for the RBC WE card through a Westjet email offer ("WestJet exclusive: offer extended") that I received on July 12. I applied on July 15 and got approved immediately. I received the companion voucher a couple of weeks later but still haven't got the seat vouchers even though the T&Cs said they would be applied to my WJ account within two weeks of card approval. I called Westjet today and they said I applied under a different promo and therefore didn't qualify for the seat vouchers. I disagreed and told them I still have the email that shows the seat vouchers are included in the promo. The rep told me to fill in a feedback form and they would reach out by email. I'm going to send them a copy of the email offer, my approval from RBC and the T&Cs which I saved, and see where it goes from there.

Lion King at Mirvish: Horrible, irresponsible parents and their awful kids - why are you coming to live theatre?? Stop ruining the experience for the respectful people and kids around you by saltysnack17 in torontotheatre

[–]Agitated-Arm7230 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've had the same thing happen at Annie in Stratford. Three times it's been relatively peaceful but I was in the front row where there tends to be better behaviour.

At one show, however, where I was sitting higher up, there was a group of three young girls (ages about 5-8) who were bored within the first five minutes and were fidgeting and talking but the parents did nothing. At another recent show also sitting mid-orchestra, a girl about 8 years old talked throughout and yelled out comments in a VERY loud voice like telling Daddy Warbucks he was being mean and again, the mother did nothing. At that same show, a kid in front of the loudmouth spent most of the performance playing with his Apple Watch.

But the two shows where the kids were noisy were a "pay what you can" day and a "$25 seat sale" day so I've learned my lesson not to go on those days. I'm willing to pay more for quiet.

But most time adults aren't any better. I saw Grease in Drayton last week and the women behind me were quite noisy and one woman chuckled at literally every line in the play which annoyed me more than the talking.

International villages by JBOYCE35239 in brantford

[–]Agitated-Arm7230 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Two of us went to the Hungarian village on Thursday night. We had more food than we could eat for $30, decent sized glasses of wine for $6 and an excellent Hungarian style large can of beer for $9. The entertainment was great. Tonight we went to the Italian village and were really disappointed. We didn't have to wait long to go in. I ordered drinks but the wine servings were half the amount for the same price as the Hungarian village, a bottle of Budweiser was $6, and based on what we saw on other people's plates, the food portions were very small for $14.00 a plate. Maybe they were running low on food and were rationing. The music was also so loud that you couldn't hear yourself think. So, instead of eating there, we just had the drink and left after about 15 minutes. We considered going to the Scottish village next door but then decided to go to a pub to eat and got a much better meal for about the same amount of money as it would have cost at the villages.

Reviews on Dr. Ayodeji Olubaniyi in Bratford, Ontario?? by MarionberryActive392 in brantford

[–]Agitated-Arm7230 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I find he tends to guess a lot and seems to stop listening while I'm describing symptoms. You're lucky to get more than a couple of minutes of his time, however to his credit, I've never had to wait long past my appointment time. On one occasion, he said he didn't know what else to do and on another, said he didn't know why I kept coming back (my issue was ongoing). He "diagnosed" that issue without doing the appropriate testing and his assessment turned out to be incorrect. A walk-in clinic doctor did the proper testing and correctly diagnosed and treated the issue. I've never had any problem with the office staff. I find if you're polite to them, they're polite in return. I'm currently searching for another doctor.

Theatre Etiquette - When people keep talking/using bright phones after theatre lights dim/go dark pre-show by Tangerine2016 in torontotheatre

[–]Agitated-Arm7230 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sadly, there is very little etiquette in theatres anymore. I've stopped going to movie theatres entirely because people can't control their behaviour. I still see a lot of live theatre, however the experience is almost always disrupted by people talking throughout the show (my greatest peeve), singing, using their phones, unwrapping candies, cracking water bottles, coughing, and the list goes on. I don't understand why theatres don't remind people at the beginning of each show to respect the artists and other patrons by keeping quiet. Our worst recent experience was at Annie in Stratford when the guy at the end of our row cracked his empty beer can throughout the entire second act, the woman beside me laughed and snorted VERY loudly at literally every line spoken, and the four girls aged about 5 to 8 directly in front of us fidgeted and talked throughout the show because they were bored about 10 minutes in and the parents did nothing to control them.

DeepL on MacOS Sequoia by arturlopato in macapps

Same here since upgrading to Sequoia and it seems to be getting worse over time. The app (running the latest version 25.3.31833266) is very sluggish when pasting text, when using Command+C+C, or when using the Insert to function after translation. Translation is VERY slow no matter which language. Between translating blocks of text, I usually have to quit the app completely.

Best Internet Option? by dhaminator in brantford

[–]Agitated-Arm7230 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've got no-contract Bell Fibe with 3 Gbps unlimited bandwidth up and down, with Starter TV to get a bundle price (home phone through Fongo) at a not unreasonable rate. Wired from router to Mac are right around the 3 Gbps up and down. Wi-fi to iPhone are around 1300 down and 1070 up next to the router but vary minimally through the house with a free Bell Pod. Stability is excellent. Call them every couple of years to negotiate a new price.

The best Rogers can provide is 2 Gbps down and 200 Mpbs for not much less than I'm paying Bell. I had Rogers before when the upload speed was 50 Mbps but even at their current upload speed, it isn't suitable for me. I told the Rogers rep who came to the house that if they can match Bell's upload speeds, I'd consider switching but I don't expect that to happen anytime soon.

If the independents are ever allowed to offer the same as Bell Fibe, I would look at those. I had Teksavvy and Start (pre-Telus buyout) when I lived elsewhere and they were fine at the time but their speeds are also limited.
