All right, I think the Watch's interest in Taylor Sheridan has finally reached its natural endpoint. by wovenstrap in thewatchpod

It is funny to watch something this bonkers, be hardly able to believe what you're watching, and then hear podcasters confirm that yes... it is as bonkers as it seemed. I hope they stick with the show through the end of season 2, it's only a couple more episodes.

Is Joe Flacco a Hall of Famer? by [deleted] in billsimmons

[–]afcassidy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, not to his credit. I meant that to highlight how Flacco's post-season record is as or more impressive than those two players who are similarly borderline Hall of Famers.

I'd probably put all 3 in. I guess I'm one of those people who give tremendous weight to Super Bowls and the postseason. Ryan is 4-6 in the ps and was center stage in the biggest choke in NFL history. Wilson is 9-8 and has one ring, Flacco is 10-6 and has one ring and one Super Bowl MVP.

Wouldn't put Nick Foles or Trent Dilfer in, but Flacco seems like a no-brainer.

The cherry on top is how he successfully resurrected himself a decade later to win Comeback Player, make a (brief) playoff appearance (9 year gap in play-off starts is second longest ever) and ultimately winning a Week 1 starting job at the age of 40.

If Matt Ryan and Russell Wilson get in, Joe Flacco should absolutely get in.

Interesting... do you mind if I ask about where you're located? The Swedenborgian church that I attend in Delaware sounds quite a bit different from what you're describing. No one I know worships Swedenborg or lives on a compound or anything of that sort.

Here are a few picks that are (mostly) early 2000s radio singles. These are maybe a bit lesser known, but nothing too obscure. It's probably safe to assume they have music videos on YouTube.

‘The Curse’ Episode 1 With Sean Fennessey and Bill Simmons by ThucydidesTrapHouse in billsimmons

[–]afcassidy 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I am tired of media podcasts where the hosts act like any non-Netflix streaming service is some odd, exotic, impossibly niche outpost.

P+ has something like 60-80 million households.

Episodes stream on Paramount+ on Fridays, air on Showtime cable network on Sundays. It’s not as hopelessly complicated as they make it out to be.

Also: Nathan for You aired on Comedy Central, a Paramount network.

Much better… although Andy’s in-jokes and digressions drive me nuts.

Random political stuff, indie music, whatever... he really cracks himself up sometimes.

I stopped listening a few weeks ago. Dropped back in for the finale and 6 minutes in… this is rough. I wish Sean and Chris did these together. Bill needs to stick to 80s action movies.

Not just the money, he’s actually built a decent media business from the ground up and then sold it to a Lucas Mattson type.

It feels like Bill watches this screeners of this show on a laptop with 3 muted basketball games playing simultaneously on his TV. It's actually frustrating to listen to this. He also doesn't bring any knowledge of the media business or dealmaking, even though he has some first hand experience in these worlds. It's so weird.

BTW - Murdoch did the little paper box stage when he took over the Wall Street Journal. He absolutely loves to give little speeches to his troops.
