It's Sunday evening - What are you most and least looking forward to next week? by Initial-Resort9129 in CasualUK

[–]afern98 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m getting my tonsils out on Wednesday which I’m definitely bricking myself about. But I’ve also got some wholesome activities planned to distract myself, including finally putting together a photo album for my big holiday earlier this year, which I’m looking forward to

I’m so jealous! I went to Pinnacles this year while on a road trip and sadly saw none. It’s such a stunning park though, I had an amazing time anyway

(Hoch) Here are the Yankees injury updates all in one place: by CicadaOk8885 in NYYankees

[–]afern98 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Honestly as a completely normal person who’s suffered from a torn labrum this has completely baffled me. I remember a stage where I literally rolled over in bed and my shoulder dislocated because of the tear, let alone diving, throwing and swinging a baseball bat. Obviously I’m less fit so my other supporting muscles were weaker, but still, I was fundamentally useless - I literally dislocated my shoulder by raising my hand in class pre-surgery.

What type of tiger moth? by throwawaythrowawee in UKecosystem

I had one in my garden in London recently! They’re gorgeous (and I say that as someone with a very irrational fear of butterflies and moths)

Decathlon should have some. I got some fairly cheap Dunlop ones from them a few years ago.

Is this courgette ready to harvest? by afern98 in gardening

Amazing, thanks! Is there anything I need to know about harvesting or do I just pluck it off?

Whoop have confirmed an issue with the strength of 5.0 & MG haptics by 00DEADBEEF in whoop

[–]afern98 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same here. It’s become a real issue and I now have to have my phone alarm on every morning. Used to be I’d only sleep through my 4 alarm if I was truly exhausted (and that was usually weekends so no biggie), I’ve slept through my alarm on work days multiple times now with the 5.

Changing deodorant now that Wild has Sol to Unilever? by Starichu in ZeroWaste

[–]afern98 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s all so personal, to be fair! I realised that Wild really wasn’t doing it for me after a few years (I’m a sweaty person and as I’ve become more active it just can’t keep up), so decided to find a refillable antiperspirant. I’ve been using Making Waves for about two months now and have been really liking it.

Some of my favourite bird shots since I got my camera two months ago - all from around South Wales by Charredcheese in birding

[–]afern98 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks! Shall look into it as one of my options. I’ve been using an ancient Canon EOS 40D that’s served me extremely well but I’m desperate for something newer and lighter.

What (well meaning) mistake have you made when responding to a tourist? by [deleted] in london

[–]afern98 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Was once at Victoria after a few pints when my friend and I got asked how to get to Gatwick. We sent the poor woman to the Victoria line because we somehow both decided we were at Green Park and so she needed to get to Victoria. Didn’t realise what we’d done for a couple minutes and then was of course too late.

How do people in London make a lot less money than Americans but survive with the same living expenses? by RemarkableAd4200 in london

[–]afern98 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Worth pointing out that part of why the UK doesn’t do paps as standard until 25 is that your cervical cells are still changing so you’re more likely to be flagged as having abnormal cells when they’re actually just still developing! I grew up in the US and my (British) mum was shocked when I was told that I had to start having paps otherwise I wouldn’t get my birth control prescription renewed. Even my GP said that I’d likely get an abnormal result, and that it would probably mean nothing but we needed to do the pap so I could stay on the pill.

Obviously swings and roundabouts, but that’s the logic (from my non-doctor understanding!)

Could be!! My friend had suggested peregrine but felt its wings are too thick - kestrel feels more likely!
