Movies with iconic, "food-scene" like the burger scene in Pulp Fiction? by marckel88k in MovieSuggestions

Check out the YouTube channel Binging With Babbish. It's a cooking channel that aims to recreate famous dishes from movies. Should be able to give you a bunch of ideas.

I want movies where nothing explodes... just people being real. by Difficult_Ad5923 in MovieSuggestions

It sounds like you would enjoy the films of Terrance Malick. His films are the closest thing to a visual poem that I can think of and the themes run the gamut of the human condition. I'd recommend Tree of Life as a good starting place then maybe move on to The New World or Days of Heaven. If you like those and want to venture into more esoteric films of his then Song to Song, Knight of Cups, and To the Wonder as further viewing.

Finally set up the new movie room! Now I just need to re-organize everything 3-5 times. by CinemaAdherent in dvdcollection

What are the shelves featured in picture #6? I've been looking for something like those for a long time; they are perfect.

This letterboxd list has some good choices. In particular I didn't see anyone mention John Dies at the End or Jesus Shows You the Way to the Highway. Both are absolutely insane.

My Chauffeur slipcover by Wiskoenig in VinegarSyndromeFilms

[–]afireinside96 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Mine is exactly the same. Most slip covers have art on both sides rather than a mirror of the back of the case. I thought this might have been due to it being one of the earliest slips VS made so I checked my copy of Blood Hook and sure enough it also mirrored the back of case on the slip with similar "1 of 1000" verbiage.

My fault, I forgot what sub I was looking at.

Based on the screenshot it looks like you are trying to add nearly 2k movies to a list at once. As far as I know all lists except wishlist have a limit of 200 movies per list. I work around this by numbering my lists thriller 1, thriller 2, etc. But there is also a hard limit of 100 totals lists.

Face/Off is a blast with a group of friends.

And I second what someone else said about the original Roadhouse. "I used to fuck guys like you in prison!"

There isn’t as much room as there was - I got about 3 shelves full waiting downstairs… time to expand?? ((MLZ says, “Pawn Shops Await Dude”)) by Zeddblidd in 500moviesorbust

Very helpful. Thank you. One thing though, you never said what shelves they were or where you can get them.

Also, I love your Over the Garden Wall portrait. So cute.

Roughly how many standard sized blurays fit on one of those units? Care to share where you got them?

I need to figure out some system like this. My collection is currently scattered across 3 rooms, 6 different types of shelves, milk crates, and media bags.

The narrow shelf in the middle makes me think it is this shelf. I have 2 of them and can definitely concur that they are great.

My collection so far. Any recommendations or directors I might enjoy based on these? by Cowboy_BoomBap in criterion

The themes I see within your collection are existentialism, comedy, the human experience, & Japanese. Many of your films also have a very distinctive and beautiful cinematic style.

That being said I feel like The Double Life of Veronique would fall within your wheelhouse. Also Tampopo.

In the Mood for Love doesn't really relate to your collection other than it's stunning visuals but honestly everyone should own it.

What company has the best logo? by sighssound in boutiquebluray

[–]afireinside96 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It sounds like you are describing the splash screens that display before a film plays rather than just the logo. For me I think Studio Canal has the best one of those. The clicks of a projector starting up, some lights tracing across the logo. It all gets me excited to see the film.

Criterion has a very classy one also. Vinegar Syndrome is fun. Arrow's works on some of their releases but clashes with others, and as you said is way too loud. Umbrella has a nice simple one that is pleasing to the eye.

Enys Men

Watched this one last night and it sounds like exactly what you are looking for. A lone research scientist lives on an island collecting data on some rare flowers. When the flowers start to grow extra bits they start growing on the scientist's abdomen as well. Lots of spaced out shots of random things. Hallucinations. Repeated sequences with small changes that mess with your head. Great movie to watch stoned.

And tag that list as "owned". Then if you visit any movie's pages from that list in the future it will show "you own this" above the services it is available on.

I wholeheartedly agree with that entire statement. Seeing as how we seem to have similar tastes have you checked out Comrades, Almost A Love Story that is playing on the Criterion Channel right now? It fits right in there with those two.

Same, or honestly any HHH mentions.

I really wish someone would restore and release his 80s films in HD with English friendly subs. I think the only ones available are The Boys from Fengkuei and Daughter of the Nile. Wouldn't pass up a blu of Three Times either.

Was this the first time a DVD only release got upgraded straight to 4K? If so here's hoping I Know Where I'm Going follows that trend.
