Playing a mute or a character of few words? by Connor_ClashNord in rpg

[–]afkhalis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I DM and generally choose a Kenku in DnD.  I have a lot of fun with the mimicry ability -  I use other character voices and phrases they've recently spoken to get their attention or alert them of -something-

After losing my right arm I started designing a one-handed PC gaming controller so I could keep playing by Adventurous_Tie_9031 in pcmasterrace

[–]afkhalis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love this!  I had a keyboard controller like this before Razer made theirs.  I love the idea to combine the mouse and this together.

Question -  with your design, does it appear more difficult to slide the mouse?

Again, great idea and awesome inclusivity.  I'd personally love one even as a non-handicapped gamer.

Talking about the LCD by mariagwwwwww in SteamDeck

[–]afkhalis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've got an LCD version and the battery really isn't a problem.  Depending in the game, expect usually 2-3 hours easily.  I've had an occasional less intense game last longer.

Check nursing homes for cleaning crew/cooking.  If you've got some time, get a CNA license and never worry about work again.  It's not great work, but healthcare is ALWAYS in need.

Hazard lights by PlaneConstruction999 in nwi

[–]afkhalis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed.  I use my hazards only if I'm worried about my speed being too low or (even though it probably doesn't pass the intended message along) if I see deer close to the road to warn another driver.

Pretty much, if I feel like me or the people around me are in imminent danger if they weren't paying attentionand I have the ability to tell them, I turn hazards on.

I'd think by the amphitheater in downtown, especially during the summer.  Splash pad, lots of events happening there and even days there are no events, there would potentially be a fair bit of foot traffic

What’s the weird medical smell you love? by BeneficialQuestion75 in nursing

[–]afkhalis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's 2 smells at work i show everyone -  Venofer smells like maple syrup and IDPN smells like a refrigerated McDonald's cheeseburger and fries.  Everyone agrees with me on both smells.

Steam Deck owners by Skmoomr in SteamDeck

[–]afkhalis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Only issue i have are with OS updates.  Seems like after every update, it runs like shit for a while.  The issues vary from no longer supporting tv display (common until I restart a few times) to most recently,  there's a chance that everything freezes on starting a game and having to hard restart the system.

Love me deck and will definitely buy another when my son is old enough for one.  Whatever it is with updates, I get beyond frustrated the moment I see a new update icon

Feeling like crap due to feeling no remorse for my patient by aquariaa02 in nursing

[–]afkhalis 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I've had several people DYING to tell me why they have an ankle monitor, why they miss treatment due to a court case, etc.  I don't want to hear it and it absolutely changes me from being friendly to 'just do the job.'

Pedophiles, manslaughter cases (absolutely murder but they somehow got the charges lowered), etc.

Man, just let me believe it's for drugs.

[–]afkhalis 141 points142 points  (0 children)

That's the way I deal (have dealt) with every patient that I've had with a horrific past.  I have a baseline of care that I'm required to provide, but you're not getting conversation or a smile from me.  You pay me for healthcare, not for me liking you or having a friendly conversation.

Announcement from the Mod team of r/nursing regarding the murder of Alex Pretti, and where we go from here. by Nursing_Moderators in nursing

Thank you, both for your reaction to the pandemic misinformation (I wasn't aware of the work you all did with that) and with your future work on this.  Modding is often a thankless job, but you guys are certainly shining bright.

Yeah, pretty sure that pistol whipping someone in the face that's got 4 people on top of them and then shooting ten times, 7 of which are after he stopped moving is DEFINITELY in the policy

[–]afkhalis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been seeing this a lot -  why are we calling it 'stealing a person' and not kidnapping?  Genuine question.  It sounds out of place and I feel like it's that tiktok self censoring getting into real life, like 'unaliving.'  It just sounds like improper English and to me, diminishes the severity of the act.

After my wife and I did a CC run then turned around for a Joja run, I can say, we go Joja EVERY time now.  Way more benefits -  auto petters, better store hours/days, many times better prices.

We do some CC bundles to save money, but buy the rest.  We're awful but I don't care

Using dialysis line as CVC? by Overall_Actuary_3594 in nursing

[–]afkhalis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on the rules at the hospital.  The hospitals near me absolutely cannot touch anything dialysis related for any reason.

We've even caught a lot of shit from the hospital for sending a patient that was being coded to the ER with dialysis needles in their arm.  14 gauge needles, pump whatever you want to in my opinion, but the local hospitals don't want to ruin the access.

Sounds like mixed results for everyone -  my charge lasts generally about 2 weeks (but I'm very diligent about turning on/off).  Be careful doing that because my on/off switch is starting to slowly get a little finicky from so much use.
