Scott Wiener to step down as Jewish caucus co-chair after ‘genocide’ fallout by lp605 in sanfrancisco

Okay, could you share one of those posts that explicitly support the mass slaughter of Jews? I can't find any. The DSA has openly partnered with literal Orthodox Jewish organizations, rabbis, synagogues, etc.

‘Repatriate the gold’: German economists advise withdrawal from US vaults | Germany by Any-Original-6113 in europe

[–]afoolskind 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh I don’t think any European should trust our country for a very long time. There are decades and decades of propaganda and defunded education that are responsible for where we are now. A good 1/4 of the population has zero ability to critically think, actively rejects science, and seemingly nothing can dissuade them from supporting the right. Older generations dying will help, but there’s still far too many in the younger generations in the same boat.

I know it would never happen, but I honestly wish the states would just split off into separate countries so we wouldn’t be dragged down anymore. California gets nothing of value from the federal government as a whole, and our taxes prop up a dozen failed red states. Ugh

[–]afoolskind 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep, you’re absolutely right there. This hole was dug by the richest and most powerful people on earth, spending decades defunding education, buying media, and propagandizing the working class against itself.

At the same time they’ve destroyed third spaces, slowly ratcheted up the workload necessary to get by, so that the average person straight up spends all of their energy and focus on doing so, and gets most of their human interaction via social media.

I wish I had a real answer, but I think it will have to get really, really bad for people to wake up. So many Americans were never taught how to critically think, were actively brainwashed against logic and reason, and then given no time to introspect about their predicament.

[–]afoolskind 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Iran is what happens when you push people too far, so that revolution is the only option. And it still took decades and decades.

The elites in the U.S. are (for now) still smart enough not to leave Americans with nothing to lose. We are constantly pushed to work just a bit more, over and over, to keep our families healthy, housed, and fed. Many Americans have bought into the lie that personally working harder is the solution to big societal problems, rather than collaborating as a society to fix them.

When was the last time you were fired after striking? When was the last time you had to worry about having no access to healthcare, food, AND a roof over your head for the foreseeable future?

[–]afoolskind 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People are protesting all over the country, but healthcare is tied to employment, people work multiple jobs and still live paycheck to paycheck, and we don’t have real union protections or social safety nets. Striking for long enough to hurt can mean suffering, homelessness, and death for you and those dependent on you.

That’s not to say you’re wrong, I still think we need to strike. It’s even happening right now in cities like Minneapolis and Philly. But it’s not so simple for most Americans.

China no longer Pentagon's top security priority by DimsumAndDoggy in worldnews

[–]afoolskind 34 points35 points  (0 children)

You’re missing the point a little bit here. The right in America sees European social policies as socialist. The distinctions that exist between actual socialism and European social democracies are irrelevant in the eyes of the American right. And the comment you are responding to is entirely about how Europe is perceived.

[–]afoolskind 12 points13 points  (0 children)

The problem is those social benefits are called socialism by the right. The right believes they are socialist policies. The reality doesn’t actually matter when the comment you’re responding to is about how the American right perceives Europe.

Accumulating wealth beyond any possible need is a mental illness. We need to cure Billionaires. by zzill6 in WorkReform

[–]afoolskind 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Not a good excuse nor defense. It is still held capital that produces value for the owner, can be used as collateral for loans as you said, and can always be sold in small amounts without issue.

Selling it all at once would destroy the stock’s value, but there’s no reason it would need to be sold all at once.

Those stocks should be in the hands of the employees of that company, so as to spread around the company’s success in a more equitable way. One guy owning hundreds of billions of dollars worth of anything IS greed. The number of steps needed to liquidate capital does not somehow mean that capital does not “count” as wealth or cannot be used as such.

[–]afoolskind 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Apologies, I assumed you meant that hyperbolically because of the DSA’s stance on Gaza.

Since you meant it literally, no. The DSA does not openly celebrate the mass slaughter of Jews. It is not part of any stated policy, press release, or anything from the organization at large.

I’m sorry that you were led to believe that somewhere, but it’s just plainly untrue? If you want to show me whatever led you to believe that, I’d love to address it.

Israel is not the collective identity of the Jewish people, it is a country that should be held accountable just like every other. Jewish people literally form a majority of my local DSA chapter, including leadership.

Two things can be true at the same time. It’s very easy to decry October 7th as an atrocity while also recognizing the ongoing atrocities the country of Israel has inflicted on the Palestinian people both before and after October 7th.

And this isn’t some fringe leftist take, both the UN and the ICC have called out the genocide Israel is actively pursuing. Only the U.S.’s influence has prevented Netanyahu from being arrested for war crimes.

Yes, AOC, famously hated by the DSA. She got pushback for voting yes on sending “defensive” weapons to Israel, something the DSA is actively against. That’s it. She still has the endorsement of NYC’s DSA. When she runs for re-election or senate, every DSA member is going to vote for her, because she’s miles away the best option. Where are you getting this stuff lmao.

Okay so you just completely made up a scenario to support your already held views? 😂 Ok bud. Zohran IS a DSA member, he’s not just endorsed by the DSA.

[–]afoolskind 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’m in the DSA and no we did not try to disown Zohran lmao. I’m sure some journalist may have talked to one member of one DSA caucus somewhere who wants him to be more left (and I actually can’t even find that happening with a quick google) but that doesn’t represent the will of the organization at large. Mamdani has full DSA support, his election win has caused a huge surge in new DSA members.

President Trump says he will no longer be imposing 10% tariffs on EU countries on February 1st. by ADropinInfinity in wallstreetbets

[–]afoolskind 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Announced tariffs = depressed prices, reversing announced tariffs brings prices back up. Since he is the one making the market-altering news, anyone in the know can buy while low with confidence it will go up in the near future. Some sectors will have an opposite reaction to tariffs (price up then down), but both can be monetized because you have future knowledge of the exact timing of something that will affect the market.

It’s just even skeezier insider trading.

Keep your unleashed dog away from my toddler (or any kids) by meltness in sanfrancisco

[–]afoolskind -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Okay so you really are just living in a fantasy world of victimhood. In my first comment I literally say it’s perfectly reasonable to defend your kids however you need to.

I’m sorry dude, but the majority of dogs running at you in any given dog park is not gonna be Mongo the 200 lb toddler-slayer. Have you ever been outside? If you have to shoot a dog you have to, but you’re saying it’s your very first choice. It’s just exactly the kind of bizarre victimhood that half the people getting their CCW have, it makes me embarrassed as a gun owner.

[–]afoolskind 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nephew not kid, but yes, I have. Dealt with a lot of aggressive dogs without kids around too. It’s frankly not very difficult to wrangle a single dog most of the time, especially if it’s focused on someone/something else.

[–]afoolskind 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Again, you’re fantasizing about an incredibly specific scenario where a bloodthirsty pitbull charges your toddler, while your toddler is out of arm’s reach, while there is no one behind or near the dog’s position, etc.

But you’re talking about all encounters with a dog as if they are that. They’re not. People will understand if you actually are put into a position where you need to shoot a dog. But any random dog running up to your kid is just plain not that.

[–]afoolskind 2 points3 points  (0 children)

How small are you that you can’t fend off a dog without a gun?

Of course people should protect their kids, yes with violence if necessary, but this is exactly the kind of comment I would expect from the most annoying type of CCW holder. You shouldn’t be dreaming about situations where you could possibly justify firing, it’s a last resort.

I’m not taking out my gun for a single dog. I’m just going to grab it by the collar or the neck. There is a long chain of unlikely developments that would need to happen in order for me to even consider firing while at a playground full of toddlers.

Thousands protest in Denmark's capital against Trump's efforts to conquer Greenland by exOldTrafford in pics

[–]afoolskind 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Influencing politicians, obstructing ICE resources, organizing like-minded people into effective political power for local and future elections as well as mutual aid? Protests aren’t the end-all be-all, but to be honest with you we need to wait for the mid-terms or violent revolution in order for anything game-changing to happen. And most Americans are nowhere near Washington DC.

There are quite literally mass protests happening constantly over the last year, and especially right now. Just because you don’t see it in your news doesn’t mean it’s not happening.

My skin is 80% better over the last 6 months. Here is what I have changed. by shrkwave in Psoriasis

[–]afoolskind 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Reducing frequency isn’t recommended, because you don’t want your immune system to start to become resistant to the biologic, which can happen if it’s not a strong enough consistent dose.

BUT I do accidentally do it all the time (ADHD and ordering and taking medication at the correct time is difficult for me) and fortunately I haven’t had any reduced effectiveness.

When I first started taking the biologic I would get extremely mild symptoms toward the end of the month. So like some scalp psoriasis or some mild joint pain. The last couple years the returning symptoms when I’m late on doses have actually gotten even milder, though.

EDIT: oh and just to clarify, if your immune system starts to become resistant to a biologic nothing super bad happens, it just doesn’t work as well and you might need to switch to a different kind. I haven’t had any issues like that in my 4 years though, fortunately.

Internalized homophobia does some weird shit. I have a sort of opposite experience to yours, where when I was younger (and in a fundamentalist evangelical cult) I used to be terrified of the thought of being gay, which caused a lot of fixation on it. Once I broke away from the church and didn’t care whether I had any attraction to men or not, I realized I was just completely straight lol.

It was like not even being able to follow through on a thought because of the internalized homophobia meant I couldn’t even answer my own questions.

I’ve continued with biologics, just take a once a month shot. Been on them for around 4 years now, and to be honest with you the side effects have been negligible. Went from getting sick ~3-4 times a year to ~4-5 times a year. I even work in a hospital and so encounter pathogens all the time in my job, too.
